Comments Thread For: Hearn: Alexander Can't Punch, Good Fight For Khan

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport believes IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13KOs) is a very good match for Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) at 147-pounds. Khan plans to return on December 7th and says the date will mark his debut in the welterweight division. The rumored opponent is Alexander, who first needs to retain his title on Saturday night against Lee Purdy in Atlantic City.

The article makes me laugh as I can remember when people were gassing Allexander up as some prolific puncher. I think it was after he knocked out Urango? Anyway I don't think Allexander is a heavy hitter but at the same time he hits hard enough to present a problem for Khan.

      Wait, what ?!

So Hearn is now slating Amir's potential opponent when not all that long ago he was bigging him up when Brook was about to face him.

By NSB logic, everybody hits hard enough to cause Amir problems. But till this day I've never seen the warrior being knocked out cold.

If he has enough power to starch Urango, he has more than enough to KO Khan.

So? What would you expect. He is a promoter after all.

I can see why Hearn would say this since Alexander hasn't scored a KO recently. Then again nobody is going to KO Bradley, Maidana, Kotelnik, or Matthysse. Bailey is a guy that can be stopped, but it seems Alexander was content to get this victory and title and avoid taking too much risk with the big puncher. Funny thing is Alexander might look like a puncher again if he scorches Purdy. If Alexander doesn't get the stoppage then you can definitely say he isn't a puncher. Alexander-Khan I favor Alexander and hopefully Khan goes through with it especially if Devon looks sensational saturday.

Are you suggesting Amir will have more punch resistance at 147?

I would say it's not smart to say Alexander can't punch..I mean the dude KO'd Urango a fighter that's never been knockout..I agree it's a good match up for Khan, but not because Alexander can't punch..

                    I agree with Hearn.

One punch aside (Urango), Alexander has always been a pit-pat puncher who screams like a b*tch to make them sound powerful. He is not a puncher, but he could still stop Khan.
