  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: Gonzalez Blew His Shot, No Burns Rematch

Promoter Eddie Hearn has made it clear that lightweight contender Jose "Chelo" González (22-1, 17KOs) had his chance on Saturday night, and blew it, and doesn't see any reason to grant him a rematch against WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11KOs). Gonzalez appeared to have swept the first seven rounds, and the judges had him up 87-84 as the tenth round was about to star, but the Puerto Rican boxer indicated that he injured his left writes and couldn't continue. I had Gonzalez way ahead, even in saying that, I don't want a rematch either. He clearly didn't want it enough, his will wasn't there.

This site must really not like Burns. How was he exposed? By taking what his opponent had to dish out and making him quit on his stool. You guys must be Broner fans.

I guest Meldrick Taylor exposed Chavez then and I guess Hearns exposed Leonard when they fought. Burns came in, fought his fight, came up short at times, but in the end got the TKO victory. Sounds like a reason to celebrate in my opinion.

And Gonzales only won rounds 3 to 7 clearly, the first two where close so whats up with reports saying he swept the first seven rounds when that didn't happen.

Comparing that fight to Chavez/Taylor and Leonard/Hearns is the most idiotic thing I've read in a while. Cong****.

He lost the first 7 rounds of the fight. On my card.
He got outboxed throughout the fight.
His offence was not troubling nor hurting Gonzalez like Chelo's was him.

In short, I don't fancy him against the best lightweights in the division, this is what was exposed to me personally (IN MY OPNION)^^ .

of course they are not going to give him a rematch, that was pretty obvious

I would love to see young Omar Figueroa get a shot at Burns, I think he would knock Burns the *** out!

Miguel Vazquez with his style...he will get ROBBED big time against Burns, they had him up against Gonzalez on the cards which is ***in Hilarious to me

It was for title and against a big name. Gonzalez should have fought through the pain, not surprised Hearn won't give him a rematch though. Burns isn't all that though and someone is going to get him sooner or later.
