The Rigondeaux fight further proves this point because he did the same thing to Donaire that Narvaez did. He just hits a lot harder.

I remember watching that Narvaez fight on a free HBO weekend and I got so bored and disappointed that I just gave up after 3 rounds and turned the channel - that was NOTHING exciting like the first 3, 4 rounds of the Rigondeaux fight. All Narvaez did was look to avoid exchanges and cover up everywhere he went. Rigondeaux stood flat-footed, toe-to-toe from the opening bell right in the center of the ring. Then he took the initiative and asserted himself with that first exchange which sent Donaire stumbling into the ropes. Narvaez pulled a "Camacho"

Nonito Donaire is the most over rated fighter in the sport.
The only point I agree with is that Donaire is overrated. With that said, apparently Narvaez didn't think Donaire was overrated because he was in survival mode the whole fight. Now, did Narvaez do anything remotely that anyone could say he won that fight? This "so called" boxing fan wants to know....

you're right. defense wins fights. narvaez was clearly robbed and he beat down donaire almost as impressively as rigondeaux.

i'm glad boxingscene has experts like you who speak the truth. narvaez was in survival mode and still won almost every round. he'd probably do the same to martinez if he had the balls, but martinez is too busy picking on guys his own size.

Narvaez didn't say anything outrageous, the argentinian commentators even scored it for Murray. Fighters from the same country shouldn't criticize each other? Nationalism is ******.

Having his opinion of the decision is fine, but the pathethic part is that he used it as a foil for himself. "My fights are real victories." He specifically said it to aggrandize himself. He went on to basically say (full details weren't put in the article) that it bothers him that Martinez is being put on a pedestal because he was manufactured [by the media was implied], while he just broke Carlos Monzon's record for title defenses.

Then he went beyond that and even implied Martinez made up his life story.

Don't care about the nationalism, but Narvez and Martinez were known to be friends so it's pretty messed it to put him on blast in public.

I agree he should have just given his opinion on the decision and left it at that. But I understand his frustration, he's been fighting in Argentina for most of his career and lives there. Then Martinez, who fought most of his career abroad, all of a sudden acts like he's representing Argentina (after saying the country "betrayed" him) when it suits him. I understand why he thinks Martinez is fake.
