I agree that Lucas can definitely box from the back foot, in fact that's where he's most comfortable

I wonder if people really think Lucas is a come forward only type of fighter, or if they've actually watched his fights

      I doubt it's the latter.

        Damn, that's one gritty gym.

I'm more impressed by how he has developed since losing to Alexander and Judah. In my view, he is steadily improving in every fight. His first real test is Peterson though.

Peterson is going to bring the best out of Matthysse and Matthysse is going to make Peterson dig deep. This is going to be a war.

On a side note: Calling Peterson for "Cheaterson" belongs to little kids in elementary school. Get over it already.

being a boxer puncher involves more than just punching style. The reason matthysse isn't a b-p is mainly a defensive one in my opinion. He's not slick doesn't avoid punches well and his main response to an opponents aggressiveness is his own. A boxer puncher has to be more versatile than Lucas..

the flaw in Lucas' game that frustrates me the most is when he gets his opponent hurt, he doesn't stay composed and continue throwing short compact punches, he starts looping everything telegraphing all of his shots

I think he could've had Judah out of there but got too wild and Judah didn't really get clipped hard again

and my reasoning for having Peterson is pretty simple, he just has.more.dimensions than.Lucas. I think lamont can counter Lucas' somewhat erratic combos, i think he can hit him enough to keep him off balance, and.most importantly he will be able to dictate the pace. If he's able to avoid a slugfest, I don't think Lucas has the tools to outpoint him in a slower affair. Counter effectively, get him to second guess when he's going to strike and constantly change the point of contact. Those keys should get lamont the w. The formula for an upset is when the public screams "he's a beast, that's why hell win" rather than breaking down strength and weaknesses

That's the same thing that makes him fan friendly though, casual fans wanna see the will and aggressiveness of a fighter and don't mind recklessness and inefficiency.

if Lamont goes into this fight trying to counter punch Lucas' combinations which are largely one-two combos I think his gameplan will shift shortly after

Lucas dictates a high pace, I think trying to meet that pace will start a slugfest and trying to back up and stay out of range to discourage Lucas' offense will put lamont too much on the back foot. I think he won't attempt to counter him in the strictest sense, but simply avoid punches while in range and then make Lucas defend at his tempo.
