Comments Thread For: Canelo's Manager: Cotto is a Big Threat Despite Defeats

Chepo Reynoso, the manager of WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs), says his boxer is not planning to be in a co-feature position to Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) on September 14th. Golden Boy Promotions have been working on a deal to match Canelo and Mayweather on September 14. If a deal is not reached, both boxers want to return on the same date. Reynoso says Canelo will appear in a co-feature spot to Mayweather. If no deal with Mayweather is achieved, they will then consider a fight with Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30KOs).

Must be the only person who doesn't want to se canelo vs cotto. I like miguel and appreciate all the great fights he has given us, but he is 1 loss away from retirement. To be honest, regardless of the boxer, if you lose 2 fights in a row, it's shamefull to be in discussion for a title shot. cotto is a hof boxer, but this would just be a terrible way to end his career. i get the mex vs pr thing, but as huge as a boxing fan as i am, i wont be watchin this. we support fights where people shouldn't be there, then we will never get the fights we SHOULD see. jmo peace ya'll

If Canelo-Cotto is on the undercard, Floyd can pretty much fight Devon Alexander and it will still be a successful PPV. I don't see how they could afford to put all 3 on 1 PPV but it would be huge if it does happen despite what the naysayers say.

Meh. I think Cotto would do better than most, but he's lost 2 in a row. Alvarez really shouldn't get much credit for fighting him.

I agree aim for Martinez and Cavez Jr too. Only reason he wants Floyd so bad is soon he won't make weight.

Even Robert and Mikey's father recognizes this.

Yup, about as big a threat as an 86 year old Baldomir at this point...

It's obvious who Canelo's manager is pushing for canelo to fight. This is the second time he's trying to justify a fight with Cotto. I'm a big Cotto can but his best days are waaay behind him. He will get zero credit for beating Cotto at this point which I think he will do.
