How does Gonzalez have the nerve to talk after the way that fight ended?

He could have easily rode those last 3 rounds out (especially since he couldn't feel Burns punches) and cruised to a UD but no, he showed he has no heart/pride/will to win (which Burns did to be fair).

That said last night confirmed what I've thought for some time; Burns is **** average.

That was completely ridiculous. His trainer was absolutely livid as you would be. Looking at his record he's only gone 10 rounds once, he couldn't have wanted it.

Urghhhhh glad I didn't bet on it, these sort of intangibles make boxing wagers so moody.

Someone wants to tell him that a world title fight is scheduled for 12 rounds not 7.

For someone who has a broken wrist/hand he manged to carry his bag OK when he was leaving.

After 7 rounds i had him 7-0 over Ricky and was singing his praises - "a star is born, this guy is the new boss of the division!" THEN i gave Ricky the next couple of rounds as Chello did very little. He looked tired disheartened after a big 7th but i thought maybe he was just catching his breathe, taking a couple of rounds off. Wrist injury or not he should have hung in there, only needed to stay on his feet for 3 more rounds and he had it won. He wasnt getting bombed on, was still pretty slippery and could have saw it out. ***** quit simple as that

Burns is known for being in top form in every fight and he has been past 12 rounds MANY times. He has the experience and he has shown that he can take heavy punches and recover from them.

Gonzalez is used to ending his fights early because of his power but he hadn't fought anyone on Burns' level before. He did great in the first 6-7 rounds and I think Burns and his corner were surprised that Gonzales was so calm and not as "cagey" as they thought he would be. They believed Ricky could outbox him from the distance and be in control of the fight with his jab but even Gonzales won in that department.

Eventually the hard shots began to have an effect on Ricky and Gonzales had him hurt and went for the kill, punched himself out and couldn't continue. He didn't mention anything about his hands in the corner and it couldn't have happened in the 8th or 9th round because he simply wasn't doing anything in those rounds. That's also why his trainer was in disbelief because Gonzales' decision just came out of nowhere.

Boxing is a though sport. It requires everything from you - not only physically but also mentally. I nearly lost my left eye in sparring because of a hard thumb-shot. It took months for me to recover from that mentally but luckily for me we had a great sport psychologist on our team. I reckon it will take time for Gonzales to get back from this loss too.

Gonzales can bounce back but he needs to work with his mindset. A sports psychologist would be a good start. I know Pascal has been working with one too.

I agree with you. But 9 minutes is a very long time when you're completely empty. Ricky has been through 12 rounds in most of his fights. He knows how to conserve energy and dig deep when it's required. Gonzales so far has just been considered a KO artist - only being past 10 rounds once.

Ricky and his team didn't expect Gonzales to be the calm and quite versatile boxer. They sure as hell didn't expect Gonzales to win the war of jabs. On the other hand, I think Gonzales and his team thought they would stop Ricky within 8 rounds. Both camps probably underestimated each other to some extend.

The difference in this fight was heart and fitness which ricky had in buckets

The guy is just saying those things so he gets a rematch but Burns should go for a unification

I agree with you. But 9 minutes is a very long time when you're completely empty. Ricky has been through 12 rounds in most of his fights. He knows how to conserve energy and dig deep when it's required. Gonzales so far has just been considered a KO artist - only being past 10 rounds once.

Yeah that's true but if this Gonzales was gonna be the fighter i was hoping he would be (though make no mistake i was firmly rooting for Burns, my countryman and the nicest guy in the sport!) after the opening 7 then he would have shown championship guts. Ricky is a basic fighter, tall stand up guy, textbook through and through but no special effects. He is just very good at the fundamentals of boxing and he also has the heart of a champion, guts, durability and one massive engine. Chello to me seemed the superior boxer and also puncher, the latter was expected but to out jab Burns was a shock! It was his confidence and calm that impressed also. BUT when he started to tire, Ricky having ****** up his best stuff that usually KO's his opponents, his wrist (seemingly!) hurt and entering new territory he just flat out QUIT. Not what u want to see from a talent like that. I guess thats part of the reason Burns is champion, he has that built in grit, the will to win at all costs. Ricky was losing but deserves credit for toughing it out and breaking Gonzales' heart

Then why did you quit? You could have continued and gotten a draw in a worse case scenario, you already had 6 rounds won.

Gonzalez had his heart taken away in Round 7 !!! You gotta have balls to be world champ, son. Burns is not the most talented fighter,not by any means, but he has balls and comes to WAR !!!
