Comments Thread For: Cotto's Adviser: A Fight With Canelo Would Be Huge

The legal advisor to three-division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30KOs), Gabriel "Gaby" Peñagarícano, says a fight with WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) would be a huge event. If Canelo is unable to secure a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. for September 14th, Peñagarícano says the second biggest opportunity for the young Mexican is a fight with Cotto.

It would definetly be huge. A young up and comer vs a battle tested veteran. Cotto is a star and huge attraction and the other is a rising star. Plus the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry.

      Canelo v Cotto

So if Canelo decides to fight Cotto before Mayweather, would that be considered "ducking"?!

Cotto gets the winner of the fight, where he already lost to the other fighter?

        Canelo/Floyd or GTFO.

I think that Cotto is too small here. He was small against Trout too. This disadvantage is too big for him. But it would be a great match and big money for sure, but Canelo is the clear favorite.

They should only take it if they get a majority of the money

Well now Canelo and Mayweather will be negotiating for who fights Cotto in September. Lol. Can't get him to fight you..steal his best opponent option. Smart move..smart move by the Cotto camp too..his asking price is going to go up with this new development. If it seems he's more interested in fighting Canelo than Floyd that's going to be a huge shift in the power structure.
