According to nsb, Ali is the most boring fighter imaginable. He did more moving early in his career than Floyd's done in all of his fights. Even in fights where he got the KO.

Is Floyd Mayweather an exciting boxer to watch?

Larry Merchant said it best (speaking on Floyd & KOs)..."He'll open the door but he won't go barging in"...

I've got an irony for you. I've seen people say time after time after time that Amir Khan is exciting to watch. Why? For his phenomenal boxing skills? His knockout power? His non-stop aggression? Nope. Mainly because there's always a chance his opponent will land a good shot and make him do the Harlem shake!!?? So is really just about KOs?
The point is, excitement means different things to different people, as the poll so vividly demonstrates. Using phrases like "boxing purists" is showing bias as is talking about, not what Mayweather does so much as who he fights. Someone stated that although Pacquiao is known for excitement, his fights against Mosley and Clottey were snoozefests.... and the blame was placed squarely on his opponents' inability to do anything. Most of the time, the same can be said for Mayweather's opponents. Mosley can lay a beatdown on Margarito but couldn't do the same with higher calibre opponents in Mayweather or Pacquiao. Some people looked for Guerrero (and Hatton before him) to rough Mayweather up, but they just couldn't do it. To me, that's a testament to how good Mayweather is. He can reduce Marquez to landing 70 clean punches in 12 rounds. He pretty much lands a greater percentage of his power shots (even though he may throw less) than anyone else in the sport. That's pretty facinating stuff.
Where this loaded "poll" fails so badly is that it focuses on one fighter rather than looking deeper at what actually IS exciting in boxing. To some it's KOs, to others it's blood and guts battles, to some it's Tyson-esque 1 round demolition jobs and to other it's a skillful "sonning" of another fighter. To those who voted "no", is it strictly because you think Mayweather should pick better opponents? Is it because he doesn't risk hismelf enough to seek a KO? Is it because potentially dangerous oppnents just couldn't produce against him, what they could against others? Is it purely because he charges too much money? Here's a chance to raise the discussion above the usuall whining and counter-whining.

Yes, I love seeing how helpless all his opponents are when trying to **** with him but just can't touch him.

it is right. We are talking about excitement, not opponent caliber. In his younger days Ali literally was on his bike every fight, more on his bike than Floyd ever is, so in effect they are saying he is boring.
Floyd is not a boring fighter. He has had some boring fights, but he's had a heap of good ones too.

hes exciting to people who have actually boxed, hardcore boxing fans, and all top professional trainers... but not exciting to painters, truck drivers, keyboard thugs, pac man fans, people who work at ups, bullies, marks, and busters

I qualify Lucas Matthysse as exciting, so no I don't think Floyd Mayweather is exciting, but I don't miss a fight because I'm witnessing, to my eyes, once in a generation talent and skill, something that just doesn't pop up every day, I'll tell my kids about Floyd, even though I'm not a fan, when I'm older just like my dad tells me about Marvin Hagler.

And bringing up Ali just compounds that! you don't remember as Ali as the best ever because he just dominated every single person ever because he fought people he knew he could dominate do you? People remember him as the GOAT because his toughest tests like Frazier and Foreman.
