Comments Thread For: Donaire Believes He Will Be Even Better at Featherweight

Former WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire believes he will be better if he moves up in weight and fights as a featherweight.

However, in a conversation with BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard the former top five pound for pound fighter said that should he continue to fight at 122 pounds he would “have to watch my diet and work on my nutrition scheduling” to make the weight limit.

Donaire who lost his title to former Cuban two time Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux last April 13, indicated that he would need more time to prepare for a super bantamweight fight and that he would prefer to return to the ring in October and not September as earlier planned. Donaire should rebound well. He took the wrong guy lightly and paid the price. His only chance at beating Rigo would be to score a KO. Then again he tries to hard for it and his face will pay the price again. He might wanna just move up and forget about Rigo though. He'll beat everybody at 126 and won't have to worry about fighting Mares due to the network & promotional feuds.

so basically he will never fight top rank or gbp's best at that weight and we know what will happen fighting rigo again.

he should forget rigo...there are better fights at 126...rigo is donaire's antidote...good if rigo will engage, but the problem is rigo knows engaging donaire is suicide...same thing will happen in a rematch...

mares would be an easy fight for donaire but certainly not rigo...

I agree with deejd. For one, you've got Mikey Garcia at 126. I know Robert (Mikey and Nonito's mutual trainer) has said they'll never fight; but if they did, Garcia beats Donaire. Beyond that, I just think Nonito's effectiveness will diminish as he climbs in weight. He'll slow down and his power probably won't carry.
