like everybody else, i was mislead by the wording that involved both wilder and the victim being "in the custody of security."

wilder was the only one arrested by the look of things. it sounds like the woman was with the hotel security when the police arrived, and they called that "being in their custody."

i heard vegas, hotel, and two arrests [a male and a female in custody, in the words of greisman's article,] and i thought he beat up a hooker for sure

I'm sorry that you took umbrage with the way I phrased my comment. Take care, and thanks for reading.

      • I'm very disappointed; I was pretty high on Wilder as promising (and exciting) young hw. I thought that this was gonna be his 'break out' year. If the charges prove to be true then I hope he is punished accordingly; I have no tolerance for men who beat up women

        • Attorney: Deontay Wilder thought he was being robbed

Heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder thought that the person he is accused of assaulting at a Las Vegas hotel was stealing from him, his attorney Paul Patterson said Wednesday.

Wilder, 27, was charged with domestic violence/strangulation at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino early Saturday morning.

"Deontay instinctively acted under the false impression that someone was stealing from him," Patterson said today. "That wasn't the case. He regrets his actions. He is extremely regretful because this is not consistent with his reputation.

"He and the victim have spoken about this and the victim has accepted his apology. We hope this matter will be brought to a resolution soon."

Wilder is best known for winning the bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He subsequently took the nickname "Bronze Bomber."

Wilder attended the Floyd Mayweather vs. Robert Guerrero fight Saturday night in Las Vegas.

He has since returned to Tuscaloosa, Patterson said.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for July 3.

            • If the victim accepted his apology, he should be fine.
