Kirkland will most likely price himself out and demand a retirement fund like he did before.

Kirkland would be a very live dog against Canelo. He matches up well against Ginger. He probably wouldn't be favored to win but he at least has the punching power, stamina and heart to pose some very serious and potential match up problems for him and to make it a very competitive fight. After all, James has far more ability than Austin Trout and just look how hotly contested that bout was. A bout in which many boxing fans to this day believed that Austin had actually won. Unless Alvarez can hurt or stop Kirkland, he would then probably lose due to James excessive cardio work rate and punching power.

Punching ability, surely not boxing ability?

Boxing ability is actually a skill; Techniques that can be taught and developed like speed, timing, footwork and defense. On the other hand power is innate and cannot be taught. It's a natural ability. It's similar to having a good chin. Either one have it or they don't. It's very rare that a fighter would develop one or the other later in his career, if they never possessed them (power, chin) as opposed to earlier in their careers.

How long to teach Kirkland to move like Trout? You think anyone can get it? How long for Angulo?

If an amateur boxer is developed and trained at a very young age, then yes they can acquire the boxing skills/ability of an Austin Trout, Guillermo Rigondeaux or either a Floyd Mayweather, Jr for that matter. Keep in mind that these fighters didn't develop their boxing skills overnight. It took them several years of sacrifice and dedication in mastering their boxing craft.

Now as far as your other questions are concerned; I agree it's too late to develop fighters like Kirkland and Angulo into pure boxers, like Trout at this particular stages of their careers. They are two different style of fighters; Both are face first punchers/sluggers with knockout power who likes to hit and get hit.

Yeah no doubt. Dont get me wrong, I'd love to see Kirkland Canelo, or Kirkland vs pretty much anyone on my tv. He'd be easily the hardest punching guy Canelo has faced. But we know he's chinny, and he's a LOT more hittable than Trout. Either way, fireworks.

Kirkland has the style to beat Canelo, possibly by KO.

I'm sure he'd come out of retirement to rematch Kirkland.
