Jones only weighed about 193lbs for that fight, Byrd is a good 15-20lbs heavier.
Common mistake that I hate seeing repeated. Jones weighed 199 for the Ruiz fight.
Ratner's scale was messed up and Roy showed the cameras that it was and then he and Mackie showed Ratner later on, and Ratner agreed he screwed up.
As for Byrd, I think he would have been a mediocre SMW or LHW. He had speed and elusiveness for a HW, but shrink him down to 168-175 division a few years back and put him in with Jones, Calzaghe or someone with some real handspeed and he'd be beat to the punch all night, IMHO. You're judging his handspeed byseeing him with heavies, not guys with true combination handspeed. Who's to say? But I've never been really impressed with any of Byrd's performances.
...An even better scenario would be for your head to explode while you were typing.
Please pbds, you are welcome to post your opinion on boxing in any of my threads but I ask that you refrain from flaming people, it turns the thread to ****.
I think Byrd can knock Wladimir out if he'll just get inside and fight aggressively. He doesn't need much power. He just needs some accuracy. If he gets many accumulated punches, I can easily see him knocking out Wlad. It's not like Sanders or Ross Purity are that powerful and they both knocked him out.
Peter knocked Klitschko down with three of the four punches he landed against him. Byrd just needs to be aggressive. He can take more of Wlad's shots than Wlad can take of his.
yeah, i can imagine his speed and reflexes at 168 or 175 also, and he would be FRIGGIN MEDIOCRE.
are you guys serious???? chris byrd is a JOKE. the guys not a fighter, hes a joker. hes a pitty pat cutie, in a weak heavyweight era. he lost back to back to the klitschkos, vitali whipped his ass the whole fight until he quit, so i think they both lost that one.
because he was don kings puppy he got some decisions that were ridiculous. he lost to fres oquendo and golota, dont actually try and tell me you think he won those fights, everbody knew they were bull**** decisions. even his wife couldnt hide it, she knew he lost em, watch the tapes for her reaction.
and what are his BEST performances so far? washed up holyfield and bull-with-blinders tua? chris byrd one of the main things wrong with the heavyweights right now.
and what the hell do you expect jeff mayweather to say about chris byrd? the mayweathers and the byrds are both from michigan, both from near lansing. chris and his brother fought in the amateurs the same time as a couple of mayweathers, including floyd. theyre almost family. by the way, floyd would kick the **** out of chris.
It's sad thing for Chris Byrd, a guy who's known for winning decisions to be having these close, could have gone either way wins. It shows how close to being done he is. Just as a what if...what if he does find a way to beat Wladimir, does anyone see his next career move?
I'd say a unification fight or retire. Chris, in my mind, only has a couple more fights left in him, he is truly sick of the business side of the sport.

I think that you underestimate Chris Byrd's skills in his prime. He was, at his peak, one of the best if not the best defensive HWs ever. He just doesn't have a punch or an agressive, crowd pleasing style, in addition to his incredibly undersized frame.
Plus I don't think that Vitali was dominating the fight with Chris, he was winning yes, but Byrd was coming on, and landing some good shots.
Jeff is just being respectful, he has respect for all fighters, and always calls it like it is.
