All I heard was Agbeko would beat him in the rematch, Moreno would school him, Ponce would be too much at 126.....and Abner keeps proving them wrong.

Abner is for sure Top 10 P4P now.

I can't agree with this more. I was worried for him in this fight because of PDL size and power but he not only took his big shots, but he took him to boxing school.

Moreno is as good or better than anyone at 122 other than Donaire and Rigondeaux, who are both Top Rank. Oh and Top Rank declined a 3 million fee for Mares use to make the fight happen.

Mares should have beaten Perez, had a close win against Darchinyan, than clear wins over Agebko, Moreno, and Ponce. He's the real deal.

I love watching Abner prove people wrong time and time again.

All I know is EVERYONE said he was going to get schooled against Moreno, and than Ponce would be too much at 126 for him......and well yeah.

yeah i gotta hold my hands up and say i didnt think he'd even be close to beating Moreno and I didnt think he'd beat Adbeko either time without something dodgy. He proved me wrong 2/3 times (1st Agbeko fight being the exception. Proved he could do it without using Agbekos balls as a speed bag in the remtach). I thought he'd beat Ponce but that was because he converted me by the end of the Moreno fight.

Mares deserves a lot of recognition for the run he's been on the last few years.

i had darchinyan beating mares.

i had agbeko beating mares (in the first fight)

and i had him drawing with perez.

I was impressed with him tonight though. but even before the stoppage i had the fight razor close because de leon had adjusted to mares and was countering him good with lefts.

If you don't have Mares top 5 P4P right now then you don't know boxing its that simple

Mares does whatever he needs to do.....in order to win. To beat Moreno, he literally had to give him no room to breathe and throw a million punches, throw wild, whatever it took. He did it.

Now I still think Mares loses to Donaire and Rigondeaux, but those are NEVER HAPPENING. Top Rank declined Golden Boy's 3 million fee to use Mares, in exchange for them using Rios, which was fair as hell. And Mares will be up at 126, and Rigondeaux isn't leaving 122 it seems.

But the biggest fight at 126 for Golden Boy by this time next year will be Mares-Russell. I'd like to see Russell fight Velez or Gonzalez, and Mares fights who ever he doesn't fight. Than they could fight next Spring.

Mares sucks, PDL was winning that fight landing that left hand all the time.

Mares didn't even box, PDL controlled the pace and Mares even looked tired at the ending of the fight.

The showtime crew were biased as hell for Mares, their scorecards showed that and its sad as hell since we criticize the HBO crew for that.

Jay Nady is the worst referee in the history of boxing, always making ******, premature stoppages like the one we just witnessed. I've seen people hurt worst than that and comeback to win the fight but hey, Mares is the golden boy now gotta protect that kid huh?

I was gonna make a thread about how Jay Nady should be kept of major title fights but the dictator moderator took away my privileges for it, you suck
