I dont know why it's controversial
If you're in a real fight, and somebody was trying to break your arm and you were in a position to knee them, then of course you would.
If you don't want to get knee'd in the back, then don't give up your back for an armbar.

Mayorga coming in fat was not a positive for him and it just showed that he just showed up with no training. Having said that for a guy who was halfassing it and probably hasn't had more then a few hours of grappling training, he had some good instincts on the ground, like an early era MMA version of Mark Hunt.

He has a streetfighting background but I don't think that counts. He trained a bit with ATT camp but i'm willing to bet it was mostly just for the Din Thomas presser and nothing more. Like Toney and Mercer he probably had near zero grappling training.
