Comments Thread For: WBC: No Decision on Making Martinez Champ-in-Recess

World Boxing Council officials are denying a report from earlier this week that the sanctioning body would move to make middleweight champion Sergio Martinez a “champion in recess” if he were to need more than six months to recover from injuries suffered in his win April 27 over Martin Murray.

That report came from Mexico-based boxing writer Erika Montoya, who tweeted the news following a media conference with WBC President Jose Sulaiman on Tuesday.

But in the days after, both Jose Sulaiman and the WBC’s executive director, Mauricio Sulaiman, told BoxingScene.com that this is not the case. [Click Here To Read More]

In other words: "How far is Julio from his return? If we put him in there with a paperbag how much fallout will we have if we make it a fight for the belt?"

I swear I hope Martinez doesn't give Chavez Jr a rematch as a big F...U.. to both Sulaiman and his cronies.

Ha ha oh wow, the WBC don't believe that Sergio is injured until he presents himself in person AND brings a medical certificate? What's next, a physical by a WBC doctor to determine the medical certs weren't faked? WBC forcing a twice injured man to drag himself to where they are just to prove he's injured, wth/

Too many titles. Interim, youth, continental, silver and platinum, and that's only the WBC. I can't keep up.

There's a platinum title? But yeah, too many titles that mean so little. As a boxer, how can you justify fighting for a title and calling yourself a champ when there are 5 other guys out there saying their world champs as well?

Would anyone be surprised if they decided to strip Martinez and have Chavez fight for the that belt?

They should let him take extra time if he agrees to rematch Jr or face Rubio or GGG.
