Looking back.. why did so many pick Donaire over Rigo?

I was one of the 40% who picked Rigo, but why did some think Donaire would win so easily?

Rigo has shared the ring with Gamboa, Russell Jr, Mares, Abril among another host of top class fighters. It was Donaire actually who was the less experienced fighter going in.

    40%? Was more like 10%

I too was thinking Donaire via manslaughter but right towards the end I changed my mind to Rigo UD.

Donaire was the more seasoned pro,was fighter of the year in 2012,had some nice highlight reel KO's

In hindsight it was shortsighted, hence the 'hindsight' bit

Because Donaire has KO'd or hurt many ofhisopponents and many believed Rigo's chin was weak because of Cordona and Marroquin.

Also, "Amatuer experience is irrelevant in te pro's".

Power and the error I made of putting TOO MUCH in Rigos last fight, him getting rocked.

I was on record saying that Rigondeaux was by far the more skilled and gifted fighter, but I didn't think his chin would hold up. I figured Rigondeaux would out box him but eventually would get caught and either get KOd or from that point by a little scared of engaging and losing based on activity.

This was one of those times I loved to be proven wrong. Also a good lesson not too put too much stock in a previous fight.

The sight of Rigo getting wobbled by those left hooks v Marroquin was definitely a factor. I don't think many people thought Donaire would win a boxing match but most people thought he'd land his money shot at some point and get Rigo out of there.

I went back and forth on it several times and in the end I thought Rigo couldn't go 12 rounds without that shot landing at some point. As it happened it landed in the first round and once he took it I instantly felt Donaire was fucked.

Cause Rigo is chinny and all Donaire had to do was land his left hook... Duh!

it was also the "rigo only has 11 fights" thing. i always knew it was BS because rigo has transitioned nicely into the pros from the amateurs.

and the chin thing was way overblown by posters on here.......

I've seen greats rocked and knocked down (ali, sweet p, duran)

being rocked a few times doesn't = a weak chin.

                  when will people learn........

I thought Donaire would fight better. I didn't think he'd do nothing but try and land the left hook. I know he does that a lot, but against his best competition he has always stepped up to the plate and used all his skills.

He sure as hell didn't do that against Rigondeaux.
