If floyd/guerrero sells 200k ppv's floyd gets his $30 mil and showtime/cbs loses CRAZY money. If the fight sell 1 mil they may break even. If the fight does the usual 1.25 mil-a stretch given the lack of promotion/marketing that floyd usually does for his fights-then they will make money on this fight.

Sigh, I still don't think I guys get it. The deal should not be looked at on a fight by fight basis. That's not what ShowTime is after. They are trying to look at the deal over the long haul. So it should be looked at long term. They aren't just banking on this fight, but on Floyd bringing viewers, helping them catch up to hbo, legitimizing their boxing programming and attracting the next generation of fighters etc. This isn't about that one fight. That's not what the deal is about at all. That's not how companies like ShowTime do business.

In other words, they're willing to lose money up front because this is more of an investment than a money generator from the start. Floyd might have the opt out clause, but I doubt he will use it after 1 fight.

in theory you are right-but floyd has and showtime gave him; the out clause that he can exercise. SHowtime is also paying him$30 mil for this fight regardless of how well it sells.

If they lose money there is no guarantee floyd doesn't exercise the out.

exactly, canelo is just the replacement because pac was just knocked out.

Its simply the old bait and switch...

Canelo beat trout throwing barely any shots, if it was a dominating performance I could see the hype.... When and it will happen, Floyd beats canelo these guys will simply move on to another fighter probably danny garcia or some other cat with inferior skills....

Notice how PAC isnt even mentioned... These guys werent even PAC fans....... They have abandoned him............

that kid JUST had his fight with Trout who is a decent fighter, but many thought he won and you think he is "ducking" him already??? Can the guy at least get through his fight with Robert first before people make these claims? lol

Showtime will not lose money on this deal....

Fact: Mayweather live gate proceeds have been as high as $19 Million/ODL. His most recent fight $12 Million/Coto. For conservative numbers we will say this fights gate only clears $8 Million.

Fact: 1.5 Million buy rate produces revenues of $94 Million (May v. Cotto). For conservative numbers we will say this fight ppv numbers only do 750,000 buys producing $47 Million.

$55 Million in CONSERVATIVE live gate and ppv.... Less $30 mill guarantee for Floyd.... Less $3 mill for Ghost (3 times the amount he earned against Berto).... leaves $22 million in revenue not including corporate sponsorship revenue, advertising revenue, merchandise, food & beverage, ect... (if you truly know Floyds business model.... he gets a piece of all this....).

Stop with the non-sense of Showtime losing money.... It's a theory and the facts don't support it!

I'm calling my shot that even with a mediocre opponent in Guerrero, with the broader reach to the casual sports fan through CBS Broadcast TV exposure, as well as Showtime Cable TV exposure this fight sells over 1 Mill ppv buys.... Mayweather clears over $50 Million in this fight alone....

Betting all my 67K points on it..... any takers?

Look at the bigger picture. If May comes up short, it's a sign of bad things. It's not because people are clamoring for Canelo. It's either because the Showtime deal is a dud, or because May is losing his drawing power. Might be good for people who want to see him "forced" into a Canelo fight (your words) but the biggest draw in boxing coming up short is certainly not good for boxing.
                very well said...

it is never good to wish for something negative to kick-off envisioned good things to happen/come...

understand that some fans wish to have their dream match-ups happen, but that the way things are today....
