Martinez is just plain overrated. He beat pavlik who is slow as molasses after pavlik already had his ass beat. Thats about it. He struggles with B- class fighters.

He gets a lot of coverage because people like his style but he isnt that good.

I'll watch the fight again to score it more carefully..
I watched 3 fights on TV yesterday: Khan's, Martinez' and Garcia's. On these 3 fights the mentioned fighters were supposed to win easily having clear advantages over the weaker rivals. Khan was fighting at home vs. Julio Diaz who is an old lightweight at a catch weight but Amir was knocked down and hurt few times escaping with a very narrow "victory". Sergio fought also at home with a full supporting stadium vs an unheralded Murray and Sergio was knocked down too and he didn't look good at moments but being the local fighter helped him to be the "victor". Garcia also faced a boxer whose best days are in the past such as Zab Judah coming from 13 months of inactivity and who has a history of always failing on great events. Garcia supposedly would look impressive and/or KO Judah but at the end of the fight he had many problems and had to settle for a decision. I believe that Khan, Martinez and Garcia fell very short of the expectations specially of their followers.

He gets alot of coverage because he's cool and unique and from a country that historically hasn't produced that many great boxers...If he was Mexican/PR/American nobody would even care.....It's just the cool hip thing to do to root for fighters from countries not normally seen in boxing...Hence why GGG is also so horribly overrated on here.

Martinez is at end of his career. I think That Canelo or Mayweather should fight him now. The punishment Chavez gave him damaged him. At almost 39, Martinez is ready for the taking. He had a marvelous career anyway.

To bad many on here still think he "picks on smaller fighters", LMAO.

Good points. I also saw it as all the guys that were suppose to win ended up winning but not impressively. Not to mention Chris Arreola didnt even win his fight.

Yes, one should have waited to assess the effects of the damages Martinez suffered in the Chavez Jr. fight. Last night Martinez looked frail and powerless. I've red that he trained very little for this fight. Actually it was Martinez who picked Murray up as his next opponent. Therefore Martinez chose a supposed limited, easy to beat fighter. Murray is limited indeed, but not limited enough for this late version of Martinez.
I still think Martinez has something in his sac, and after proper training he still can provide at least two big fights -- for some big purses in the U.s. I suspect...

My man Sergio looked BAD Saturday night.

I was worried after the surgery he'd look like a different fighter, and he did.

I feel like his age is catching up with him, or has caught up with him, and that his best days are behind him. That version of him does not beat ANY of the top 160 lb'ers.
