  • Comments Thread For: Photos: Sergio Martinez Dropped, Rises To Beat Murray

St Helens middleweight Martin Murray dealt WBC champion Sergio Martinez an almighty scare before ending up on the wrong side of a unanimous points decision in Buenos Aires. All three ringside judges plumped for the home favorite by identical margins of 115-112 despite him being floored by his 30-year-old foe in round eight.

Martinez found himself on a canvas made greasy by incessant rain once more two rounds later but referee Massimo Barrovecchio ruled a slip, somewhat generously in light of the left-hook and glancing right-hand landed by Murray. [Click Here To Read More]

Sergio either needs a longer rest, drop back down to 154 or change his fighting style up if he is going to stay at 160 fighting the bigger guys.

Another fight Sergio seemed noticeably smaller. At this pace he's gonna end up getting KOd unless a long rest does him well.

Can't change his style(can't teach an old dog new tricks) so I agree he should drop back down to 154lbs.. His opponent looked like a light heavy next to Martinez, just like was the case against Chavez jr & they were probably weighing just as much or maybe close to that..

It's easy to look small when you're crouching down trying to headbutt the other guy's groin the entire night.

I was there at the fight. I saw Murray cleraly winning. Broken or not Sergio doesn`t have the power in his hands anymore, at least to hurt a full MW.
I'll watch the fight again to score it more carefully..

Lol could be. I mean it wasnt just height. His legs, arms, shoulders, everything was like a class up lol. But it doesnt get better with the other guys. We're used to seeing him just out speed, work and out box people and forget that on fight night hes always smaller. The way he seemed last night we could have seen his best days. The knee surgery probably did him in. The period of inactivity and I'm guessing a half assed camp due to it probably did it. On the flip side you have GGG basically fighting non stop and being in constant shape. Either Murrays overall size and cageyness was what made him look like that or Serg just seemed that slow and weak. I'm not sure Serg would have beat GGG last night... Then again GGG gets hit too easy and murray once he opened up got hurt and surprised me when he said serg had him hurt in the 12th

Martinez looked soft. Usually his back is shredded up. He loses to Canelo if they ever fight
