Is Deontay Wilder the next Michael Grant?

We don't really know yet, Price also disposed of Audley and he did it a tad better than Wilder and look what ended up happening to Price against TTComment

How big is this "tad" we are talking about?
But I do see your point.
Until Wilder steps up to say a legit top 10 guy, we just don't know.Comment

I agree.
Of course I would like to see an American HW in the mix.
But this win doesn't put Wilder up there.
Fun to bust balls on a nationalistic level somewhat, but that's where it ends for me.
Wilder is too unproven at this time.Comment

I'm 100% sure that every up and coming HW boxer would've crossed the Atlantic to fight Audley Harrison.I don't think it is a fair comparison. Wilder is still raw and even though people hate on his comp this was a risky move for him. How many other up and coming HW fighters do you see crossing the Atlantic to fight in the opponent's backyard? How many times did Michael Grant do it?
Wilder is flawed true, but the HW ranks are hardly lined with great technical fighters who will outbox and outsmart him for 12 rounds. Criticism of his chin is largely based on assumption and not fact.
To me the most obvious difference is that Wilder seems to have a genuine killer instinct and fighting spirit. Grant always struck me as an athlete who boxed because he had to and would rather be somewhere else when the bell rang.
I'm not going to give him a lot of credit for taking on Audley Harrison. If he's the real deal then to fight a 40 year old washed up Audley Harrison no matter where on the planet shouldn't be an issue. Harrison is now the best fighter he has on his record so he really needs to step his game up next time we see Wilder fight. It's got to be against a top 10 boxer.
Saying Wilder reminds you of Grant is silly. It's really just based on them both being the same size.
It's like me saying Tyson Fury reminds me of Kevin McBride.
Regarding size: Wilder reminds me of grant because Wilder also seems to be just a physical gifted athlete but not much of a boxer. It's more than just size though. It's the way both of them fight, the lack of technique, wild telegraphed looping punches..etc.
The high expectations: Fans and media were high on Grant and many fans feel the same way about Wilder - that he really is the next big thing.Comment
