Is Deontay Wilder the next Michael Grant?

After watching several of his fights It's quite easy to see the glaring fundamental faults in Wilder's technique and overall boxing...sloppy and throws telegraphed looping shots and poor balans and has a suspect chin. I have no idea why so many people are high on him.

Doesn't he remind you of Michael Grant? Just like Michael Grant he's been hyped up to be the next big thing. Just like Grant, Wilder is a big strong very athletic guy with good punching power but lacks good boxing skills.

To see Wilder in the ring it's like watching Michael Grant all over again.

I don't think it is a fair comparison. Wilder is still raw and even though people hate on his comp this was a risky move for him. How many other up and coming HW fighters do you see crossing the Atlantic to fight in the opponent's backyard? How many times did Michael Grant do it?

Wilder is flawed true, but the HW ranks are hardly lined with great technical fighters who will outbox and outsmart him for 12 rounds. Criticism of his chin is largely based on assumption and not fact.

To me the most obvious difference is that Wilder seems to have a genuine killer instinct and fighting spirit. Grant always struck me as an athlete who boxed because he had to and would rather be somewhere else when the bell rang.

Techniques are not easily learned, he has power because he's BIG! However the biggest problem that will be coming his way pretty soon is when he gets HIT!! He has NO Legs!! He has the smallest calfs I've ever seen on a 225lb man let alone a boxer. He wishes he had Mannys calfs hahahaha!!! You could be blessed with a great chin but its the legs that allow you to sustain shots to the jaw! He'll need one hell of a constitution with those spindelly legs!

            Maybe.

Aside from the K brothers though, I don't see anybody folding him up like a chair like LL did Grant.

But it's time for Wilder to step it up. The soft touch stage is over.

And I just checked boxrec, and it looks like Grant is fighting next month, lol.

Michael Grant wasn't an Olympian though. He's just a wild finisher. let's not pretends he fights like a bar fighter throwing bombs from the gate. He has a mean straight right.

You saw Cunningham put Fury on his ass with an overhand right. Wilder would of put him nite nite

i thought that first right hand that he hit harrison with was much more closer to something a schooled fighter would throw than the flailing that followed.

and on the tiny little legs; they're yet another characteristic he shares with jermain taylor . unlike taylor, i think this kid works hard. i really want him to do something at HW. i'm a sucker for a HW who shows up in shape with a big punch.

Saying Wilder reminds you of Grant is silly. It's really just based on them both being the same size.

It's like me saying Tyson Fury reminds me of Kevin McBride.

Something about Wilder just tells me he would get knocked out very easily, nobody knows if he is the real deal until he gets clapped, so he needs to step up in competition

I just have a feeling Wilder would be put to sleep by someone like TT, same way Price was.
