Virgil Hunter is a Lemon

I thought Hunter sounded deeply disappointed that he really can't help Khan.
He was building up Diaz in front of Khan to keep Khan's chin up, but that just tells you that Hunter knew this was a very bad sign for Khan to be hurt like this again. Khan himself sounded like he knew that this was bad.Comment

the 4-5 punch combinations aren't the problem. Problem is his chin is crap and his defense isn't good enough to protect his chin.
Lols at Virgil turning Khan into a pot-shotterComment

Virgil gave a lot of good advice
Khan still at times was throwing his jab high up leaving his chin up in the air, Virgil kept telling him to throw the punch towards the chest and keep his chin tucked into his shoulder, so its Khans fault and not Virgils
They need to work on that moreComment

Flurrying will always put him in the position to get caught with something he doesn't see coming. Khan is the kind of fighter that needs to pick his shots intelligently. I think he utilizes his speed in a counter-productive way.
Khan's offense is his defense. As a result, he will always get caught. If he has a more responsible offense, it would lower the chances of him getting wobbled.Last edited by kiaba360; 04-27-2013, 06:03 PM.Comment

The problem with Khan post-Freddie Roach is that he fights to stiff now. He's thinking too much in there and not using his instincts like he used to. The old Khan new when to turn it up and would have got Diaz out early with his speed and explosiveness. The Virgil Hunter Khan is fitting more cautiously but not for the better. He's not putting together a more effective offense, instead he seems to concerned with getting hit. He should have been picking Diaz apart. He RARELY ever went to the body past the fourth round. He throws some of the best body shots and totally took them out of his arsenal. Like WTF?
I don't think Virgil is a good fit for Khan. He speaks well and gives solid advice which all sounds good, but he isn't a good fit. Just because a trainer is well spoken doesn't mean he can train worth **** or actually get through to his fighter. Look at Brother Naz, he talks a good game but was probably the WORST trainer for an offensive minded fighter like Mosley. But Naz is good with Hopkins and Virgil is good with Ward. But they're not the right trainers for everyone. Roach was a good fit, but with his health and priority on Pac I can see why Khan left him.
And Khan's lack of confidence goes beyond just his fighting ability. That guy is questioning his entire career. Every fight is now a make or break event and you can tell he's nervous. He was on top of the world with Pac and Roach, then it all came tumbling down and Khan just looks lost. I mean look at him in his interviews, the Garcia KO took his soul. I like Khan, but I think he just needs to pace himself, find a different trainer who can help him utilize his strengths and vary his attack and he'll be ok. If not, the minute he steps up to another power puncher he'll get iced and be done for good.Comment

I think Hunter is more concerned about getting dropped by Khan and he's more concerned about his reputation... he was sh.itting on Roach and Khan didn't show no improvement under Hunter.
Both guys know this was bad... Diaz was supposed to be an easy fight. When Khan went to Roach, they did a lot better than this first fight with Hunter. He was building up Diaz in front of Khan to keep Khan's chin up, but that just tells you that Hunter knew this was a very bad sign for Khan to be hurt like this again. Khan himself sounded like he knew that this was bad.Comment
