Now that Canelo has beaten a fighter like Trout hes no overrated hype-job anymore. Now finally he has proven himself to be a worthy champion.
Trout is really a good fighter and he was in his prime and a real big 154er. Both guys weighed over 170 pounds on fight night! Canelo might have to move up to 160 in a year or two because hes still verry young and making weight will not get easier.

i'm a unbiased mexican that loves the sport. i thought trout won a close UD. the texas judges did'nt rob trout but they cheated him.canelo was back and forth and can't consistently fight smart for a whole round.mayweather will tear him up.but i will be convinced on canelo if he stops ducking and beat lara.

wow i disagree with main page i had canelo winning 114-113....
Look was trout more active, yes so some rounds u hada give him because of that, but the better boxer that night was canelo...... Canelo landed the cleaner an the harder punches, cabelo had better defense than trout(used more head movement, body movement i mean he did a mayweather mimic out there though not as good), in those close rounds i considered all this to give canelo rounds.....canelo also had the difference factor in a close fight scoring the crazy knockdown he had trout doing spaghettit legs an landed some hard shots that went unnoticed because of trouts excellent recoverey.....i just felt trout got outslicked by the power guy....but those who say trout wrong rnt crazy the fight was close i just prefer canelo....even by actual scoring standards which are clean punching, effective aggression, defense, ring generalship, canelo landed cleaner shots and had better defense....trout was the ring general but was his aggression effective???i personally didnt think so, he missed a whole lot of punches i mean he hada throw over 300 more punches to land only 30 more punches, plus canelo was using headmovement the whole fight, even when he wasnt he was using body movement to deflect shots....canelo proved he will continue to improve as the training camps continue. .

I admit I was skeptical about Canelo's hype but his win against Trout showed me that he's the real deal, though a work in progress.
I think his team prepared him well. He especially showed great improvement in slipping jabs. That was definitely a big plus against Trout.
In some way Canelo reminds me of Arthur Abraham in that he fights in spurts. When he's switched on, he hurts people; when he's off, he risks losing rounds through inactivity. I think his stamina will be an issue when he meets an opponent with heavy hands with the same work rate as Trout.
In any case, he deserved the victory.
Trout's game plan was the best one to implement for his style. But ultimately it was inadequate. Trout is missing that threat to erase opponents with one punch. He didn't look terrible. But he's gotta create more highlight-worthy moments in order to bag another big fight.

I watched the fight once more and confirmed that Canelo won the fight and he did based on being more effective than Trout (Austin could have thrown another 200 punches but hitting air and without landing nothing significant means absolutely nothing). Trout was never able to hurt Saul and on the other hand Canelo did it several times to Trout (not only at the knock down). Canelo defeated Trout at his game when many predicted that Saul would be stopped in cuts and/or massive blooding of his face. The only thing that concerns me is what appears to be a problem with Saul's stamina. It is hard to explain whether his training was or not adequate since it looked that in the last rounds he appeared running out of gas but it may also be due to the confidence of knowing that he was well ahead what made him cruise and took it easy but that could also be a problem with the open score system.
