When was it revealed Trout-Canelo would be open scoring?

Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention but I don't recall hearing any of this prior to the fight.

Also, since the WBC RARELY ever uses open scoring, what the hell is the process of selecting which fight will have it? They just pick whatever fight they feel like? Why no Mayweather or Pacquiao fights?

This is something they've flirted with for at least 6-7 years and clearly they aren't going to implement it as a standard, so why use it at all?

I knew when the open scores were announced after 4 rounds that one of two things would have to happen for Trout to win....

    1. He'd have to win every single second of every round, and not get touched at all by Canelo

    or

    2. He'd have to stop Canelo

Man that also ****ed up the fight because once trout heard the scores that he was down by alot after 8 he was forced to open up n fight a different fight. If the judges would have been fair n scored it as close as it was then trout wouldn't have had to fight out of his element

There are other examples of this. Did you see O'Neil Bell vs Jean Mormeck II? Very similar where the first half of the fight appeared really close, and was a war btw, but the French judges had Jean up wide so he went on his bike for the rest of the fight. Totally killed the fight for the fans, and the entire dynamic of the fight. If Jean thought the fight was close surely he would have engaged and who knows, maybe he gets KOd. I've never seen an open scoring fight where it positively helped the match.

It's no surprise with the WBC and having 38k+ ppl chanting for one guy it'll automatically give him the edge due to the crowd sway. Hardly open scoring is used especially a championship fight. I had Trout winning by 2 rounds despite the knockdown.

Nope. The open scoring screwed Trout so bad. He was forced to fight reckless, and leave openings for Canelo.

It was fishy from the get go.

Everyone talks about how open scoring disadvantaged Trout especially in the later rounds. You can say the same thing on Alvarez. He dropped pursuing a KO win in the later rounds which I would have loved to see. It's obvious that they knew who is winning/losing in the scorecards.

It was just like the Garcia - Morales fight. The fight was much closer than the scores indicated and in both fights, the loser had to open up more or at least take more risks.

Not a fan of open scoring, surprised that Trout didn't work harder when he KNEW the cards were hopeless, and Canelo with his dubious stamina just coasted the last few.

Some sort of WBC shennanigans going on with cards of 118-109 being handed in, not very subtle.
