SAN ANTONIO, Texas: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) notched a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Austin Trout (26-1, 14KOs) Saturday to unify the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association light middleweight titles on Saturday night. The three judges at ringside scored it overwhelmingly in Alvarez’s favor: 115-112, 116-111 and 118-109.

Alvarez landed a sharp straight right that knocked down Trout seconds into the seventh round — the first time the American had ever been down. The crowd of nearly 40,000 at San Antonio’s Alamodome was pro-Alvarez, and the 22-year-old from Guadalajara appreciated their backing.

i actually wouldn't mind seeing this fight "marinate" a bit. i say alvarez gives cotto a call for his next fight or faces the winner of the angulo/lara fight. if mayweather is still holding the super wba belt or has interests in fighting alvarez, then do it. not sure if alvarez has/had trouble making 154, but if he hasn't, he's staying at 154 for a while imo.

I like Lara but I think he would fight a little scared of Canelos power and lose a UD. Thats just my take, Lara is a beast but he tends to hold back to much against fighters with pop, and lets face it hes not in Master Rigos cuban skill level.

He damn well better!!! He got tired at the 6th round and never got his second wind. He may have been throwing too hard in those early rounds [trying to knock Trout out too early]!
