Anyone find Rocky hilariously unwatchable?

Rocky was a straight up bum. He would have gotten killed by Rid**** Bowe, Lennox Lewis, Holyfield, TYson. Even Ruddock would have killed him.

Some interesting facts about Rocky:
Joe Frazier was in the actual movie.
Stallone did not spar with Duran but with the Mexican LHW Yaqui Lopez instead.
Lennox Lewis beat up the actor from Rocky V. Who is also a boxer name Tommy Morrison.. with a godly left hook.
Rid**** Bowe came into the ring wearing a batman suit and was throwing batman ninjas into the crowd before adopting a more serious demeanor later on in his career.

Working in the slaughterhouse, treating the meat like a heavy bag, and running up the stairs was all stuff Joe Frazier actually did, which leads me to believe it was based off him

If you watch it just for the boxing, then I can see you having issues with it. But Rocky isn't just about boxing. It's more of an underdog story than anything. You can replace boxing with football, working on wall street, whatever. It's about a man who's considered a loser, a bum by most everyone around him, who's giving a shot to finally show he's more than that and makes good on the opportunity.

And when you watch the series as a hold, you get a real sense of the grueling life of a fighter. Rocky went from being on top of the world, to losing his title, to losing all his money, to losing Adrian, but still found the courage to step in the ring and do what he does best and someone overcome the odds. And that's why people love the films.I bet the Rocky theme song is played when guys train more than ANY other song around the world. lol It's inspiring.

My favorite quote is from Rocky Balboa (the last film), "What is it you said to the kid? It ain't about how hard you can hit; it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward...How much you can take and keep moving forward. Not get up, get up!"

And to add, the actual fighting in the early Rocky films is MUCH MUCH better than recent films like The Fighter which really was laughable, although I loved the story.

Anyway, we need more boxing films!

Obviously, the actual boxing scenes are rubbish in terms of realism and drama, especially to boxing heads like us.

But Rocky 1 is an absolutely beautiful film. 2-5 are crap, while 6 I'm sorta OK with it cos I consider it a sweet bookend (and in my mind, I've deleted 2-5).

But Rocky 1, I consider a masterpiece of American cinema. Revisiting as an adult, I was shocked how great it was. I've strongly recommended it to a few people, who have reported back the same thing - they couldn't believe how great it actually is.

The boxing is just a metaphor really.

And I know it's a fairytale but there are some some scenes that are so emotionally raw and moving.

It's hard to do, but you have to forget the sequels while watching the original. If you can do that, it is still a very, very good movie. Like all the best boxing movies, the boxing itself is not that important.

The best boxing i have seen in any film is probably the Korean film Crying Fist . They basically just box for real and are both pretty decent. One of them is the guy from Oldboy.

I've always taken issue with the fight scenes. There are plenty of exciting fights in boxing history that don't resemble a 'Rocky fight.' Couldn't Stallone have cherographed the fights to be a little more realistic?

Is boxing so boring and unappealing to the casual person that you have to make it cartoonishly violent?

The Rocky movies have innacurately portrayed boxing as a crude contest between unskilled combatants who have no regard for self preservation i.e. defense, and are only able to become victorious because their extreme 'will'

To me, anyone who can't be inspired by Rocky as a drama is not quite with it. As-in, they probably don't get along with people in real-life very well. It's like someone who says they hate puppies, you have to wonder what went wrong in their life.
