  • Comments Thread For: Kevin Bizier Declines Alexander IBF Mandatory Shot

Devon Alexander was scheduled to face his mandatory challenger, Kell Brook, of England, May 18 in Atlantic City on Showtime, but Brook was injured during training and had to withdraw. To ensure Kevin Bizier's presence in Atlantic City to fight Alexander, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer also contacted the president of GYM, Yvon Michel, offering a very attractive proposition.

All members of Team Bizier - Kevin, Michel, Marc Ramsay, and Remi Bizier -- met yesterday to analyze the entire situation. The unanimous conclusion of this meeting was to refuse the IBF and Golden Boy's proposal. The current circumstances do not allow Kevin Bizier sufficient training and preparation required to participate in a fight of this magnitude against the established IBF champion. A letter was also sent this morning to the Chairman of the IBF Championships Committee, Mr. Lindsey Tucker, for this purpose. [Click Here To Read More]

*****... This was his chance. They talking bout he'll be champ one day you never know when you'll get another shot.

All that talk about sufficient training is bull too, if u were already gonna fight on May 25, your only talkin bout fighting a week earlier. They just know Devon would've taxed that ass

Give Carson Jones the shot, at least us fans may get some excitement from an Alexander fight then.

That is definitely one of the differences between an American (fighter) and one from another country - No American fighter is gonna turn down an opportunity like that, especially if he is already in camp for a fight that's scheduled only 7 days between (his fights on the 25th and the IBF is on the 18th) - I could see if he wasn't in any kind of shape, then yeah short notice, but these are how a lot of opportunities in boxing go.

Like I said, Brook and his team knew that loss was coming, they thought better of it.

there were a handful of american fighters who didnt want to fight GGG on march 30...let's not make this about nationality shall we

somehow saying brook got scared makes no sense to me...if he was why did he sign the contract in the first place? that's a ****load of wasted money on promotion to waste for someone who hasn't won a world title yet

alexander sucks too...why any top 5 fighter would turn him down is beyond me

Exactly! Terrence Crawford went in on two weeks notice... easy work. Alexander would have made it look too easy.
