Could Mayweather Have Been "The Peoples Champ"?

I noticed that Mayweather gets respect from fellow boxers and hardcore fans but he casuals seems to hate on him a lot. I also understand it was a business decision creating the "Money Mayweather" persona against De La Hoya and so on and so forth.

My question is could he have been regarded as the peoples champ in the same respect as these guys for our generation?

He could've been yes, if he stuck with Pretty Boy persona. I think he made the change because of the above post... he wanted more money. The peoples champ is good but having people who love you AND hate you gets you more income as you get different types of viewers. We will never know because he didn't choose to go that route.

"The People" meaning that group that doesn't really truly following boxing wouldn't even know who he is had he not become Money May.

Marquez, who is a bland guy, hasn't become the people's anything in America after knocking out boxing's second biggest star in a rare and brutal fashion.

He could have been, if he were a nicer guy.

truthfully speaking , floyd lacks the intelligence to be a people's champ ...he lacks the charisima too , the personality and the attitude turn people around him on him , it's so easy to turn "judas " around a selfish unsincere son of a b1tch like floyd.......

                    I have a different definition of people's champ ....

Manny Pacquiao became people's champ in 2003 when he beat Marco Antonio Barerra, they did not fight for any trinket as Barerra did not want to pay sanctioning fees but at that point in time Marco was the lineal FW Champ...

                    people's champ = fan's champ/peer's champ/media champ
