Comments Thread For: Frampton's Trainer: Carl is Not Ready For Rigondeaux

Barry McGuigan admits Carl Frampton is not ready for Guillermo Rigondeaux, but backs him to beat the other world champions at super-bantamweight.

Rigondeaux holds the WBO and WBA belts following his points win over Nonito Donaire in last weekend's unification clash.

Frampton has world title ambitions of his own and is closing on the division's big names after taking the European title with a dramatic stoppage win over Kiko Martinez in February.

McGuigan, who is Frampton's manager, is confident that the Belfast man can make the step-up to world level, but feels he needs a few more fights before pitting his skills against the classy Cuban.

He told the Ringside Toe 2 Toe podcast: "Few things about Rigondeaux, he's going to be hard to promote. He doesn't draw a big crowd. He's the chairman of the who needs him club.

"From my perspective Carl's not ready for him yet, so we need another year at least to develop Carl.

doesn't matter if it's a year from now or 20 years from now, there is no way in hell Frampton will even win one round against Rigo. He's just to smart and to skilled.

Well at least he's being honest .. IMO he'll never be ready for Rigo but right now he would just be destroyed.

Fair comment but he'll never be ready for Rigo. Makes no sense for Carl anyway he could fight Quigg in a big domestic showdown for much more money which is probably a winnable fight for him.

The only guy who's stated their interest in fighting Rigo is Romero. Quigg/Frampton are supposedly still not ready. They aren't gonna know for sure til they step in the ring with him. Nobody is gonna give them the type of fight that Rigo will.

I agree, he was already warned by Bob Arum and Gary Hyde in the Cordoba fight that he needs to stop running if he wants to make millions in the sport of boxing especially at Junior Featherweight. Rigondeaux's stock actually went down after the Donaire fight and I don't see him getting close to as much money as he got when he fought Donaire because nobody will want to fight him.

McGuigan denigrating Rigondeaux, boxing's about fighting the best and beating em, not trying to rain on parades, what happened to Barry after Pedroza?
