The respect Danny Williams receives from boxing fans can only be generated by Danny Williams. Nothing Vitali does will effect that. Danny needs to do it himself.

Unfortunately for Danny, I think he's reached the summit of his career. He's achieved more than most just by getting a title shot. He's had his 15 minutes and now will probably fade back into oblivion.

Danny was unfocussed and had glanduar fever that night. To bring up Sam is a predictable reaction.

No he didn't, he had shingles. But anyway, it's easy to make excuses (I've no idea if they're valid or not) for one fight, but viewing Danny's career as a whole, what has he really achieved? Aside from Tyson who has he beaten? Who has he looked impressive against?
IMO He's done nothing to prove he could trouble even a fat, uninterested Lewis. It was one shot that Rahman finished Lewis with, but don't forget Rahman was doing pretty well up till that point; the fight was fairly even.

Its predictable to bring upp a good point, getting koed by Sam says it all, DW had his shot he dident make it, he dident even deserve it.

He aint even in the same leauge as VK.

I give DW props in that he was one of the very few men ever to beat Tyson.
Now it may have been due to an injury Tyson suffered, or it may have been against a washed up Tyson, it may have been a number of reasons, but the fact of the matter is that DW cashed in on an acheivement that very few boxers ever have at the right time. He wasn't the one that controlled it even, it was most likely circumstances, but still... he did it.

They do have similarities in that respect, but Rahman is more proven on the world stage (Danny came from nowhere) and should at least be able to make a decent fight of it

I never said he was: hence the whole point of the thread. If Vitali creams the rest of the division, wouldn't that then possibly suggest that Danny has a possibility of mixing in that company... except for Vitali?

As for Sam, Danny got RSF, not KOed. He wobbled from Sam's shots, though as he took far more from Tyson and Vitali this would suggest something about him that night.

And Siberian - you're right, I made a mistake, it was shingles. But the Rahman point is still irrelevant - yes, it was fairly even against Lewis, but as we've already established Lewis couldn't give a toss that night (wasn't he smiling in Rahman's face just before the KO?) it doesn't mean anything in and of itself.

I would not give Danny more respect but rather decrease my disrespect towards him. I dont think that Rahman is that muc better that Williams simply because Rahman also had very embarssing performances(like flying out of the ring from Maskaev's right hand or losing to Oldyfield). Really, you can compare win over Lewis to win over Tyson. Lewis was out of shape and unfocused, Tyson was washed up but trained hard prior to his fight and looked good in the beginning. As of saying that Danny can fight at elite level... I dont know if he will be able to overcome the psychological aspect of his defeat.
