Dan Rafael has been utterly pathetic.

We all know he worships Donaire, but his attempts to put Rigo's win down have been disgusting.

          good read Cliff.
I had it 11-1. He completely shut down Nonito and gave him pause about coming in any harder or much of anything at all.
What do you see next for Rigo?

I think anything from 9-3 to 11-0-1 was fair. Anything else was credit for clueless plodding.

Of realistic foes, I'd like to see Vic, the winner of Mijares-Terrazas, Or Garcia. John too has a fantasy pick

Lots of back peddling, what happened to taking it to the champion. Rigo lacked that. They studied Donaire well enough to pot shot him and run. Team Rigo did enough to impress the judges, Donaires one punch KO strategy was the dumbest plan going into the ring.

^^ Co-sign. That 10th round knockdown was the result of some "UFC dirty boxing" by Donaire - it was ethical and legal but Rigo should learn from it becuase that's the way people will look to fight in the future - inside and ugly with holding and hitting.

I have watched the fight like 6 times now altogether and I've set my Verizion FIOS to watch it again at 11:00 p.m. tonight. Donaire nearly got his head knocked off his shoulders in round 10 by the concussive counter punches of Rigo - the echo reverberated like surround sound. He got anxious and desperate and Rigo set traps for him with his defensive ring generalship then fired fierce power shots into his face several times - again and again. By catching Donaire coming in that is the best way to maximize counter shot. Donaire's eye got busted open in the final round by Rigo using that exact strategy.

Listen to round 10 again with the volume on 66 or 75 and the sound of those counter left hands landed with bad intentions into Donaire's face - without that knockdown Rigo wins that round easily.

I agree Kevin Iole and Dan Rafael have been embrassingly biased and their articles have been disgusting to read.

I am glad that cult of Rigo is alive, I still remember a few years ago when I went on espn and saw an article that rigo had defected I started jumping up and down for what seemed like an eternity. I knew what Rigo was capable of since he is one of the greatest natural talents that Cuba has ever bred on the boxing ring, but i am not sure if i ever envisioned this, his age was worrying me and at times i felt that with the 2 year lay off and so much time in the amateurs would impact him negatively.

Well at least one writer knows something about the sport he is writing about.

I usually like Dan, but I've been taken aback at his attitude towards Rigo's great victory. Rafael sounds more like a casual fan nowadays than a professional boxing journalist. When serious boxing writers speak of "El Chacal's" performance in such terms, and score a fight like that so closely, we're in trouble.
