  • I fear for Rigo.

Arum, writers, HBO, and the "casuals" are up to destroy his career.

Since Nonito can't beat him, they're gonna beat him by making sure he's an undercard. He's getting no protection. Its not that he's boring, its that he's Cuban.

All Nonito has over him is millions of delusional fans who moved on from Pac. That's it. He's just lucky to qualify as Filipino.

    • It's a big struggle for Arum to promote anyone.

There are 2 million Cubans in the US, Cuba being a boxing mad country, and Arum is saying he doesn't know how to promote a Cuban fighter?

More like lazy, it doesn't take much common sense to know what to do here.
Put this guy in Miami for a couple of fights against bums and build a following. Let him fight 4 times next year and get some highlight KOs. Then let him face a top guy with a name and smoke him.

100% right. Put him with retiring old cans like Nonito was offered.

How hard is that? Build him as a Cuban machine, put him with expiring legends. Rigo has power to KO.

Unfortunately these days Arum thinks the only way to promote fighters is by having them go mindlessly toe to toe, which costs Bradley about 10 years of brain activity.

Pac, Broner, Nonito, etc. were matched very carefully. Why can't the same be done with Rigo?

          • A couple of guys have said that Rigo needs to be matched against brawlers. I agree, that's probably the best way to get Guille to open up. But don't expect those face-first types to keep up their aggression through twelve rounds. After they feel what Donaire felt, they'll slow their flow as well. "El Chacal" has all the tools. It hurts to be tagged regularly, accurately and hard.

Yeah that is kind of disturbing. But I think HBO was honest and having a guy in one division with all of the titles is always a good thing for a promoter.

Not to mention if this guy goes and puts on a fight in Miami all the Cubans are going to fill the arenas.
His next fight better be in South Florida if Arum is as smart as I think he is.

In boxing you either can be boring in the ring and have a huge fan base or have no fan base but be tv friendly cant be both.

Now HBO are just shady motherfuckers.

                  • Bob needs to retire. Bob expects guys to just go out there and pound each others brains out. then all Bob has to do is say, you saw the fight, it was a real war. And the next fight sells it self, in his senile dome.

yeah. i think arum made a mistake, and clearly misspoke. But I really can't imagine him meaning with all intention that he doesn't know how to promote this fighter. I watched the video, he didn't even sound angry or that upset to me, just sounded like he would've preferred more fireworks for the fans, not like he didn't already make his money.

I have no doubt Arum is smart enough and capable enough to promote Rigondeaux the way I think many of his Cuban fans would appreciate. Try a different locale, and different opponents will bring out a more offensive showcase anyhow. People that want to watch Rigondeaux will come out to watch Rigondeaux, it's that simple.

He said something he shouldn't have, but in all honesty, I think people read too much into it. He's a promoter, there's nothing he does better than sell. As long as there is a paying public supporting Rigondeaux business is open.
