Masterful stuff by Rigondeaux. I thought there was a decent chance of an upset, but never like this.

The fight was competitive for the first 2 rounds, then Rigondeaux gave him a boxing lesson for pretty much the rest of the match. By the middle rounds he was actually in cruise mode as he was that much in control of the fight, & that gave Donaire the only chance he had when he scored the knockdown. However it proved to be brief a moment, & Rigondeaux was pretty much back in control by the next round.

How anyone can score this fight close obviously doesn't know the first thing about boxing, as this was a masterclass in precision, timing & ring generalship.

Congratulations to Rigondeaux, & I would say the only person that can beat him at the weight is himself, by getting simply getting too casual. Skillwise he is simply a once in a generation fighter.

Great fight, couple slow rds but some high drama. Rigo picks apart Mares. A rematch would be fun, Nonito would have to be aggressive and i think it would end in a knockout prob of Nonito. Rigo is just a master technician, handled a top p4p guy with relative ease. Didn't look hurt by that knockdown either.

Rigondeaux should be in the Top 5 P4P now. Definitely the best performance of his career, given the outcome and fighter he was facing. Rigondeaux is the real deal, and he put the no chin theory to rest, because I was starting to believe it after the Marroquin fight. It's the reason I picked Donaire to win.

Was I WRONG!!!! I was telling everyone how Donaire was going to either KO Rigondeaux or win a clear decision when Rigo felt his power & got on his bike to survive... But instead Rigondeaux boxed beautifully & dictated the pace threw out the whole fight, even after he suffered the knock down!! At one point Donaire looked lost, confused & scared to throw cause Rigo was countering the S H I T out of him!! & the very few times Donaire landed a good shot, Rigo retaliated right back with a better one!! Tonight Rigo made Me a believer!!! Great win & great performance by Rigondeaux & his team...

Donaire hit him with a few clean hard shots and other than the KD he wasn't hurt at all in the fight.
