According to Dan Rafael on his weekly boxing chat today the 141 catchweight was done only from Matthysse's insistence.

Why can know one answer why the Mathysee-Peterson fight is not for a unification title and insted a catchweight fight?GBP won't mention why-do u know?
Dan Rafael (2:32 PM)
It is at 141. Matthysse didnt want to give up his wretched WBC interim title. IBF, obviously, is not going to allow its title to be unified with an interim title. That doesnt even make sense. Peterson, OBVUIOUSLY, wasnt going to give up his IBF title to fight for a crappy interim belt. Schaefer didnt' give a damn, just wanted to get the fight on, so they did it at 141 with neither title. It's ****** and makes no sense and I blame Matthysse since the whole damn purpose of an interim is to get a shot an actual title, which he would be getting with Peterson. He wanted to still be Garcia's mandatory, which is also ****** since Schaefer promotes three of the four guys and wants to match the Peterson-Matthysse winner with the Garcia-Judah winner. (Schaefer doesnt promote Judah but could easily make a deal.) So it makes no sense for Matthysse to be worried about an interim belt. Furthermore, if he were to lose to Peterson or win and still be Garcia's mandatory and the fight went to a purse bid his percentage is less than what he would get as an equal titleholder in a negotiated deal. Whole thing is just ****** but still a good fight.
A good fight is a good fight but come on with this GBP BS !!! This should be a unification fight, period.
I don't blame Lucas. He wants to make sure Garcia cannot duck him without losing the WBC title. I like Peterson and I think he is a very good fighter but I think Matthysse knocks them all out at 140 or for this fight 141.
Can't believe how many people thought this was Peterson's doing. I always thought it was pretty obvious that it was Matthysse's idea.
(It's genius by the way. Regardless he's getting a belt and I think that mandatory better ensures that than having the IBF. He might be giving up some more money, but there'd be a lot more pressure to fight him now.
Also it's no sure thing that Matthysse beats Peterson so Garcia could still go with the mandatory fight and not fight Peterson. If Garcia does fight Peterson, Matthysse gets a belt. He's the true winner in all of this)
ABC craziness. I can understand Lucas' position. I know Schaefer says the winner probably gets Garcia anyway but I wouldn't trust Schaefer with a bucket of piss.
People like him don't mind cheaters, just so as long as it's not Pacquiao.
If you've guys have followed my posts like I think you have, then you will know I'm probably one of the most consistent posters on here.
Although I know you guys are trolling me, I'll still give you a serious answer anyway.
This thread and post that I made over a year ago clearly answer any of your questions on my stance regarding OST and if my argument is more fighter based or commission based:
I've heard of NSAC catching fighters for having banned substances in their system after they've already had their way with their opponents. Of course the KO/TKO/UD victory will be changed to No Contest. But what good is that really doing?
What's the point of taking punishment from someone who has illegal substances in their blood, only for the fight to be overturned after the damage has already been done?
There's a whole list of fighters in MMA and boxing that weren't caught until "after" the fight. This is a problem
I can understand why a fighter would want to make sure a fighter is 100% clean before they lace em up. NSAC's sole purpose is to protect the fighters. You can't protect someone by catching the crook after the crime's already taken place.
I'm not sure how many people USADA has caught "before" the fight, but I can't help but to think that when athletes know testing will be full force, I would think they stop taking the illegal supplements in fear of getting caught. Maybe this explains why USADA doesn't have the greatest track record of catching athletes before the fight, because the athletes aren't doing anything illegal because they know they can't beat the system. That's my opinion of course.
Also, due to the expensive cost of year round OSDT, isn't it hard to implement this testing for the whole year?
In my opinion, even though Mayweather's version of OSDT isn't the real OSDT (according to Victor Conte), it's still better than the old fashion "catch a fighter after the fight" NSAC method.
See, I can be consistent. But problems with posters like yourselves, is you stay away from threads like the one above because it doesn't fit your agenda. What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong. I call it how I see it regardless of fighters.
Again, I've heard "let the commission do their job" for years. I've said all along that drug testing requirements need to be changed; thus, placing the blame on the commission. I've been consistent. But it's posters like yourselves who flip flop when things don't go your way and when it's in your best interest.
