I can't stand this either. For me, the term doesn't apply to professional sportsmen, particularly those putting their lives on the line.

It's not a term used in Britain anyway, it means something else here.

Precisely my point. It's 2013. Other sports are organised and well-run.

Nobody on here is claiming to be above anybody, in boxing terms Pianeta is a bum, hes done nothing of any note & frankly he isn't worthy of sharing a ring with Wladimir. And just about anybody who can pass a medical can be a pro boxer. The term pro just means somebody who gets paid.
I thought a bum is someone who is proven to be a bad fighter, not one who didn't prove to be a good/decent fighter yet.

Does this mean everybody start as a bum?

Not true. There are plenty non-bums in the division as of now. Pulev, Helenius, Fury, Povetkin, Banks, Adamek, Cunningham, hell even Boytsov or Price coming off a loss would be better than Pianeta. Even Dereck Chisora would be better - at least we'd get an entertaining build-up.

What we're getting now is Wlad coming out and saying: "I really need to prepare for this fight. He's never tasted defeat (except against me in sparring but we won't mention that) so i'm expecting superman to fight me. He's practically a raw Mike Tyson. Remember what happened to Ali vs Spinks in '78" and all this nonsense. And then he goes to a boring KO in 5 rounds.

So all the fighters you listed are not bums.
If Wlad is to fight Boytsov tomorrow he won't be considered as another bum...

Great to hear. Wlad will fight all of them anyway.

Boytsov would be the worst out of the ones I mentioned.

Well you say that, and I can only hope. Since the summer of 2011 he has fought zero credible opponents.

He has had the past year and three quarters to sort out a fight with Povetkin or any other top 10 contender, and it hasn't happened. What makes you think it will change? And just to make it clear, I am not implying that Wlad is scared or ducking or anything like that, he just won't pay them what they're worth. These fighters get more for boxing in germany/russia/britain than they would fighting for the HW title. And unfortunately there aren't many 'old school' fighters left these days, Fury the exception. Everyone else fights for money.

Have you seen this guy fight? He is a bum. He has done nothing but go life & death with ridiculously shot to bits journeymen who have been paid to find a spot on the canvas to lay down. The only thing he has going for him is hes undefeated and that is because hes fought nobody.

Hes going to get knocked out by Wladimir, no shame there but he won't rebound. He won't beat anybody of any note, ever!

I am not sure there is a single guy in that top 30 not capable of beating him & the division is terribly weak. In fact there is a load of guys outside the top 30 I see beating him rather easily. How on earth he is even ranked is beyond me completely.

I really expect Wlad to fight at least the best out of them.

If Tyson doesn't lose he'll fight him for sure. Povetkin situation is complicated due to taught negotiations and other issues but it will happen.
                Same goes for pulev.

Only fighter I'm not sure about is Haye. As I am not convinced Haye will be active enough to secure mandatory.

After Wlad beat Haye, Ibragimov and Chegaev, not many left. It was only povetkin I assume. There are some new guys now but we'll see he will remain. Price was my big hope...

No I haven't watched him apart from a few yt clips.
fair enough if he's that bad.

pianeta has a draw with sosnowski. that's all you need to know. this confirms his bum status.

I doubt Wlad-Povetkin will happen, same with Pulev - especially if he get's KO'd by Haye in June. Fury may be an option down the line, but I doubt it and so should you that he will fight top contenders after each other. It simply doesn't make business sense for them. The only time I can see him fighting top contenders is when Vitali gives up his strap and Wlad will fight the guy who holds it to become undisputed champion.
