Comments Thread For: Calzaghe: I Fought a Better Kessler, Froch Will Win

Former super middleweight great Joe Calzaghe is siding with Carl Froch to defeat Mikkel Kessler on May 25th. Calzaghe is one of two boxers to defeat Kessler as a pro. Since losing to Calzaghe, only Andre Ward has been able to beat Kessler in the ring. Kessler won a twelve round decision over Froch, giving the Nottingham boxer his first career loss, three years ago in the Super Six tournament.

Fair comments from Calzaghe, difficult to argue against them. Only caveat is that Kessler said he broke his hand during their fight iirc.

Need to hear daggum's take on this, he usually quite supportive of Joe.

Kessler was in great form coming into the Calzaghe fight, I wouldn't say he is any worse of a fighter now... but the form isn't as good.

Mikkel is much smarter now. He was ****** enough to go into the Zaghes fight with an injury and only fit enough to last half the fight, and ran out of ideas to boot after he gassed against Joe.

I don't think Kess would make any of those mistakes today - having said that he probably has like he has lost a tiny bit of his physical shine that you'd expect from someone edging towards 35.

Overall I'd say hes a weaker physical prospect but a better opponent today.

"and he was one of the top couple of fighters i ever faced" .....<<< admitting that everyone else he fought (with the exception of hopkins) was either a has been (jones jr, eubank) or a never was (lacey and everyone else)

Froch's resume >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Calzaghe's. Calzaghe would have probably beat Froch but his resume is garbage TBH.
