Garcia is an American fighter of Puerto Rican heritage. This is no different than Brian Viloria who is American of Filipino heritage. These fighters like Viloria and De La Hoya embrace both their country of birth but don't deny their heritage. They often have both flags of their heritage in their trunks and carry these flags to the ring.

From a marketing perspective it only makes sense to consolidate both the market of your birth and also the one of your lineal heritage. Unfortunately, this is not always followed by some who live in the US for almost their entire life yet won't even acknowledge it. They feel the wiser choice is simply adhere to an ethnic market thinking it is more lucrative.
