Showtime makes up for it by having Al Bernstein who is probably the best in the business.

HBO is the one who is being childish saying no GBP fights ever. GBP wasnt saying they were only doing showtime fights, they just started making fights based on who had the best offer.

I expect the HBO sports president to get fired within a few years when they realize it was a ****** way to do business and they should just work with GBP on a fight by fight basis, if they think the fight would make them money then host the fight, if not then pass.

At some point in time, GBP's fighters will lose if they pit them amongst one another; and with the environment of boxing now, one loss can cause you to lose luster.

HBO is known as the PREMIERE BOXING NETWORK and hasn't been impacted so far with the ratings.

We'll have to see how this impacts GBP, but HBO will be just fine.
GBP has all the upcoming and most of the exciting fighters though, When you put GBP and Top Rank side to side for a popularity comparison, I bet GBP outshines 2 to 1 easily.

It was really close but I voted HBO needs Golden Boy more. Golden Boy will just put everything they were going to put on HBO on Showtime instead. If HBO doesn't do business with Golden Boy they give to Showtime all the big fights that could have been theirs. HBO won't get the fights of some big stars and future stars like Mayweather, Canelo, Broner,Matthysse and many more top boxers that are promoted by Golden Boy but their rival Showtime will. Top Rank has lots of good fighters but Golden Boy has far more top fighters than Top Rank. Personally I don't care if a good fight is on Showtime or HBO as long as I get to watch it.

I think this could hurt the GBP fighters who are in relatively weak divisions.

HBO takes the bigger blow this time. Remember showtime has always had 2 boxing series and undercard bouts on Show 2 for some time. That tells me no matter how bad people claim their ratings are, they've still put dat work in. More cards, more stars will all equal more ratings. What happens when bob's 5 fighters are recycled too much??

in that case, GBP is still the loser. the only reason why GBP signed all that talent was the promise of getting on HBO and collecting that HBO welfare check and dates. some of their boxers might start jumping ship to get back on HBO. Schaefer knows this, that's why he was pissed that HBO was going behind GBP backs to talk to managers and boxers under the GBP banner.

as for GBP's future stars... the ginger wants Floyd, but if GBP can't deliver him, the ginger might jump ship. Broner will go wherever the money is, I'm mean if he's licking stripper puss_y you know he ain't too particular about where his money is coming from either.

Short run HBO hurts more and long run GBP hurts more~

In the short run HBO needs quality fighters, if you don't have most of the best guys fighting on your network hard to say you are the face of boxing. It will take HBO a good amount of time and money to cultivate the talent needed to replace the stable of talent GBP has. HBO might not have been getting the best GBP fights but if they make better offers is GBP going to not hook them up~. It shows real weakness also on the leadership at HBO that it had to come to this and they are throwing in the towel on competing with Showtime for GBP talent~

Long run HBO is bigger and has deeper pockets than GBP plus GBP needs more outlets to showcase their talent. Also some talent will want to fight on HBO as that was their dream, short term they can keep their guys happy but over the long haul not being able to work with HBO will be a drag on attracting new talent, this could be minor or major depending on what GBP is able to work out with other outlets outside Showtime.

Boxing is just a bonus for most HBO subscribers.
