Comments Thread For: Martinez at 170.6 Pounds, Murray at 170 as of March 28

Sergio Martinez and Martin Murray both had a little less than a month to lose about 10 pounds for their April 27 middleweight championship fight in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to figures provided by World Boxing Council official William Boodhoo.

Martinez came in at 77.4 kilograms, or about 170.6 pounds, on March 28, a figure certified by Don Antonio Martín Galán of the Federación Española de Boxeo, according to the WBC. Murray, meanwhile, came in at 12 stone and 2 pounds, or 170 pounds, on March 28; that figure was certified by a British Boxing Board of Control inspector.

You think he couldn't come perform at 168?

He's at 170 less than a month out from his fight. He could make 168 and be solid there.

When you're 10 lbs above your weight less than a month out, you're not small for the weight.

Before every one of Martinez's fights there is an article on his 30 day weigh in and its always in the 170's. He clearly is a middleweight, not a "small middleweight." Wish we could end that talking point now, if not even since his 2nd fight with Paul Williams.

Bradley was at 167 a month out from his fight but I don't think he should be fighting at 168 though.

Ya he says he walks around at like 165??? So hes been training at least a month at this point and has gained weight? He had to have started camp over 180.

                By their logic, he should.

Bradley said he ballooned to his highest weight ever between his last fights. Not only this, but he just stated that the rapid weight loss affected his performance in a negative way. Completely different. Thats like saying that we all thought/think that Hatton should have been a cruiser/LHW since he got damn near 200 lbs between every one of his fights.

This is not a knock against Martinez, but lets just call it what it is with the "small middleweight" talk. A negotiating ploy(which all fighters participate in one way or another).

You seem to forget that he had a surgery that didn't allow him to do anything for a few months. I'm pretty sure he didn't hit the gym as hard as he'd like to have, when he first got clearance to train.
