Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told ********* Wednesday that the proposed Marco Antonio Barrera-Jesus Chavez fight is a no go for now. "For the moment, it will not go," said Gomez. "We are waiting to see what happens in the Pacquiao-Morales. Mr. Marco Antonio Barrera told us he will let us know who he will choose to fight him." Gomez said Barrera is interested in the possibility of a rematch with Pacquiao. "If Pacquiao wins, we are willing to make the fight happen on March 25. But, if he wins and gets injured, we could wait for him an extra month or so," Gomez revealed.
Other names mentioned for Barrera are WBO champ Jorge Barrios and WBA champ Vicente Mosquera. "Marco said he would be honored to fight a great champion like Jorge Barrios," commented Gomez. "We want him to fight the best out there. Barrios is one of them, but we will support him in wanting revenge against Pacquiao." As for Mosquera, "We had talks with Don King about Vicente Mosquera, because he had a good showing in the United States. We had talks, but no offers." Barrera vs Chavez for Chavez IBF lightweight title still remains an option. "Marco told us he was willing to fight Jesus Chavez," Gomez said. "On the other hand, Marco feels the lightweight division is too heavy for him. With Chavez, he would be taking a great risk."
