Nice to hear words to that effect. There is of course an irony here that escapes those so quick to belittle: Yes Roger and Toney sound quite ******ed...Yet watching either guy fight in their prime and watching Roger work with Floyd, or Toney just moving around the ring sparring. It is obvious these guys are very very good.

I have only followed Toney's boxing journey and not his private life but is he really in financial trouble? I read that the IRS held back his (biggest?) purse just before his fight in UFC against Randy but I don't know if it has been settled.

What is Toney's highest purse anyway? I think he got about $500k - 750k in UFC.
MS you can pretty much assume most fighters will be harassed by the IRS. Nobody ever truly knows how much they are taxed...well a few guys make it, like Larry Holmes. Toney is hardly exceptional in this regard

        Yes he is.

James “Lights Out” Toney Owes $353,966 in Back Taxes

"The puzzlement of Rafael and many others as to why Toney keeps soldiering on was perhaps partly solved this week, however, when under a new law, the State of California released a list of its Top 500 tax deadbeats.

"On the list along with actress Pamela Anderson ($524,241.80) and filmmaker Nicholas R. Cassavetes ($273,003.09) is one James N. Toney of Sherman Oaks, California, who owes the government $353,966.19.

"A lien was filed against Toney on January 7, 2008.

"And to make matters worse, the new California tax law that allowed Toney’s name to be published will also, starting in July, give officials the power to strip delinquent taxpayers of their professional licenses, including those of physicians and lawyers (it’s doubtful boxers will get an exemption).

"Toney’s repetitious and vicious insulting of the world heavyweight champions, the Klitschko brothers, and of other big heavyweight names like David Haye, would thus seem to represent a desire on his part to secure one last big payday by which to dig himself out of the financial hole he’s now in.

"Alas, Toney may have left it too late."

James Toney should try to get a fight with Kimbo Slice. If it's promoted correctly, could bring him in a bit of dough.

Like many fighters, Toney thought the gravy train would last forever.....then he woke up one day and it was over.
