Comments Thread For: Andre Ward on Mayweather, Broner, HBO, Career, More

There were no shortage of boxing luminaries sitting ringside during Mike Alvarado’s impressive rematch victory over Brandon Rios on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During some down time, I was able to have a few words with one of the sport’s finest talents, WBA and WBC super middleweight titlist Andre Ward.

Regarded as one of the sport’s classier champions, Ward touched on a variety of topics during our conversation and spoke with great insight along the way.

Read below for Ward’s thoughts on overcoming a recent shoulder injury that has sidelined him briefly, his feelings on Adrien Broner’s challenge of Paulie Malignaggi’s WBA welterweight title, his take on the recent rift between HBO and Golden Boy Promotions, his response to the recent comments Floyd Mayweather made about his career, and much more. All I keep getting from Wards statements is F the status. I want the money!!!
You get people praising him on his status as being number 1 P4P and and cleaning out his division and all he wants is the money at this point.

List of boxers more popular than Andre Ward

        Mayweather
        Pacquiao
        Broner
        Berto
        Ortiz
        Paulie
        Cotto
        Peterson
        Garcia
        Khan
        Bradley
        Guerrero
        Trout
        Canelo

This dude is number 1-2 P4P and you got small time boxers that are much more known.

In the end boxing is a business and he has been fighting top opposition for a while already.

His skill are undeniable but the lack of KOes doesn't make him as popular. Ward is a sell spoken dude and only if he continues to win is how he will get more exposure and be the money guy in the division

If he truly wasn't bothered by Mayweather's attack on his marketability, he wouldn't have responded in the many ways that he did. Ward is a cool dude but it ain't difficult to see through him, as much as he tries to hide it. In this interview he's respectable of Broner's antics but responds by sayin' he's gonna go about things the way he goes about them, that's him indirectly acknowledging that his name has been linked to Broner's when it pertains to marketability. At this point Ward has to keep winning, which he will.

I think he wants both the money and to be recognized as the #1 P4P fighter.. Problem is there isn't many options right now for him.. Unfortunately there isn't a DeLaHoya like cash cow around for him to fight and help boost his popularity and he isn't going to go the Adrien Broner route and rip off Floyd Mayweather's gimmick so all he could do for now is be himself and trust in his team and HBO to find him some big fights and new challenges. The most skilled guy he could fight anywhere close to his weight class would be B-HOP and B-Hop has made it clear he wants no part of that fight.

If anything Floyd ranting on Ward will get him more exposure. Floyd is one of the top fighters in the world recognized by the casual fans and just going to spark curiosity who is this Ward guy that Floyd is talking about.

Usually is the other way around, the less popular foe rides the coat tail of a popular guy to get exposure
