It doesn't matter about IQ if you can no longer take a punch or get out of the way.

Even someone as slick as Mayweather gets hit, it happens. Roy taking off those 30lbs took his ability to take punches. He was shot.

A shot fighter is always a bad thing, a shot athletic fighter is the worst kind. Roy should have retired after the Ruiz fight if money wasn't a problem, but he carried on as a shot fighter and he got what all shot fighters get.

Ruiz you got to be under 215 or no fight.

Idiotic post, Roy set more traps than a bear hunter. Used feints and footwork to set up accurate single shots & combinations. Showed his heart in Tarver 1 when he was out on his feet. Showed his IQ when he boxed smartly at heavyweight controlling the fight with his jab, against a guy who outweighed him by 30lbs.

If all you need is athleticism why did Andre Dirrell get batted around the ring? Every NBA player could be a boxing superstar, if all you need is athleticism.

I don't think either of them are but Roy Jones is greater than Pacquaio IMO and other than Holyfield the greatest active fighter at the moment.

To say Roy Jones didn't have a high Ring IQ is genuinely baffling.

This site get's more morons by the day.

They both accomplished alot in the sport thats been in decline talent wise through this period.
I'll take Pacman over Roy for his agressiveness and activity also his opponents abilities. A few looses don't mean much to me when its against high quality fighters. His KO to Juan was a devastating one and a very amatuerish mistake on his part but it happened and you live with it!
I hope Manny doesn't make the same choice as Roy has by fighting way beyond their prime years.
              As to statements like
"catch weights" being said to knock a fighter, thats gone on for years!! When a contract is offered with a + or - lbs. agreement you can accept or deny or renegotiate it. So its NO excuse for taking it then loose and use as an excuse. If a fighters signs to come in at 145 instead of 147 its NO Big Deal!!!
Pacman wins an adge over Roy but lets see what Manny does this coming year. He will fight one or two more times, lets see what results are recorded.

with that said he had a poor jab, poor defence and a poor boxing brain, so when he lost his superman powers, he just started losing

some styles take you out early, roys style meant he won't have a long career like say hopkins or floyd who are supreme technically gifted boxers in the game

Manny Pac is slightly difference but again, he relies a hell of a lot on his body, his movement when attacking is better than roys, his combination punching and the way he used his angles to really land his shots brought back entertainment that was lost by the current crop of 147s at the time (mainly floyd). He relied a lot on his conditioning for his all action style, more importantly he relied on his speed and sharpness....

while someone like floyd can rely on his head to not take risks and lure fights in, pac when he lost a bit of his speed, started landing less often, he started getting hit more often by counters, thus you see the man today, both pac and roy relied on their extreme speed and sharpness, naturally both lost it early which is what happens...

both made mistakes at not retiring early, around 31 years old both needed to retire I would say, that way they can leave at top but both never
Why would Roy have retired at 31? he was still going strong until about 35. Pac was KTFO horribly recently and he was KTFO horribly early in his career.

                  awful analysis
