Thank goodness he abandoned that shell D he was experimenting with in the first fight.
I watched both fights back-to-back, and it's so obvious how much trouble that shell was getting him into. He was much too stagnant with it, so it didn't serve its purpose.

But it was clear he won't fight that kind of fight again,I don't know why so many people were talking he'd lose again. Rios is limited, he's fun to watch but that's it.
a lot of times it hard to overcome a guy who knocked you ouyt previously. Cotto only did it because margs had the plaster the first time.

Combined with a totally shopworn Margarito and a very generous ringside doctor.

Surprised? No cause I picked Alvarado to pick this one (I picked him to win the first one). But I am surprised at the way he did it. He adjusted very well from the first fight and from the first few rounds. Im on record saying Alvarado would attempt to box and would eventually get drawn in into a brawl. Altho he did at times he was able to make it work in his favor.

Not really. Alvarado was doing well in the first fight before he was hurt. He fought a much better fight this time around and obviously had better results. I just wasn't sure if Alvarado would be able to keep his distance and box for the 12 rounds. Rios has always been beatable but he usually would wear his opponents down and overwhelm them.
Mike is a good fighter but I don't see him or Rios beating Peterson or Matthysse.

History tells us that when a fighter gets stopped in a war like Alvarado did the first time that the same fighter gets stopped again only quicker the next time....
Didnt really subscribe to that though as Mike's Will was never broken and that stoppage was a bit contraversial...

I'm not surprised at all I figured Alvarado would out box him this time he looked capable of it in the first fight but got drawn in to a slugfest

I called it spot-on but I didn't think anyone calling it the other way was foolish. Could have easily gone either as Alvarado nearly got ko'd.

I knew Alvarado was gonna get on his bike, but I didn't anticipate Memo not giving Rios power pellets

Rios was ignorant in his approach - He thought Alvarado would come to brawl again...

                      "We gonna go to war"
                      "We are warriors!"
                      "I'm a warrior!"
                      "I wasn't hurt i'm a warrior!"

                      Repeat warrior x100

Alvarado boxed that ass. Rios was actually mocking Alvarado's shoulder defence in training...

Alvarado and his team knew it had to be ditched - and Alvarado could adjust to do so..

He knew how to not let Rios get his work in - When Rios was setting him up against the ropes Quickly moved in and worked on the inside instead...

                      Really great job.

Rios really expected to the KO.. draining and gaining 20 pounds to be big - after 7 rounds he lost his stamina....
