  • Comments Thread For: Rios-Alvarado: The Challenge To Top Bradley-Provodnikov

By Jake Donovan - From the moment it was announced that Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado would once again square off, the first question that came to mind was how they could possibly surpass their first fight. The two waged war for as long as they could absorb, with Rios surging ahead and finally stopping Alvarado in the seventh round of their Oct. ’12 fight many tabbed as the year’s best.

The thinking was that matching or outdoing what they accomplished five months ago would be a surefire way to land Fight of the Year honors in 2013. But two weeks after Tim Bradley survived a knockdown and numerous scares to barely top Ruslan Provodnikov, it’s possible that nothing Rios and Alvarado can offer in their sequel would even land the rematch as the best fight of the month.

“I was watching the fight at home. I was almost jumping on the TV watching that fight. It brought back memories,” admits Rios (31-0, 22KO), as good an authority as any on the art of savage wars. “I was like ‘Damn, they are showing the warrior spirit.’ They were going at it. Like they said, Bradley came out with a different game plan and he proved that he’s a warrior and a fighter.” [Click Here To Read More]

Shouldn't be too hard for these two warriors. It'll naturally turn into another war.

Of course this will top Bradley's fight. This will be a war from the start to the finish. Tim's fight was only exciting rds 1, 2, 6 and 12. Lol when he was getting knocked across the ring and out on his feet. When he was boxing Ruslan, it wasn't exciting compared to what Rios and Alvarado can do.

We will see what kind of ratings Rios pulls in compared to Bradley. He even has the advantage of this being a rematch of a high action fight.

This is going to be a good fight regardless. The guy who won last time was slower than his opponent and visibly overpowered for most of the fight. This will be yet another fascinating study in the mental and spiritual aspects of the game. Really looking forward to seeing what Alvarado is made of. We already know Brandon is Lucifer's nephew.

Fully expect that. He could try and win in a firefight but it seems Rios has already beaten that hope / expectation out of him.

It won't be as good as the first fight.

Alvarado thought he was the stronger man. He thought he could beat Rios physically. When he couldn't keep Rios off him, he threw more, and eventually punched himself out.

He'll probably be less reckless this time. However, I don't think Alvarado has the capability to outbox Rios because Alvarado has never shown himself to have good feet, Rios will be able to get to him too easily.
