I just read through this thread which asked which fight was "the single greatest win in boxing history". And I was puzzled when I read that tons of people wrote "Leonard vs Duran I". I read comments like this.
And here is the problem: A lot of people (myself included) scored this fight for Leonard or a draw. It was a close fight and lots of rounds were very close. We all know Leonard fought Duran toe to toe and the truth is in a lot of the rounds, Leonard was the guy who landed the bigger shots. Listen, if anybody scores it for Duran by 1 point or 2 points AT BEST, I got no problem with that. I personally scored it as a draw and after watching the fight I had the feeling that if anyone edged it, it was Leonard.
So for me it makes more sense to scored it for Leonard by 1 or 2 points instead of scoring it for Duran by 1 or 2 points.
That being said, this is NOT the "single greatest win in boxing history" because so many people didn't even score it for Duran. Even the commentary team felt that it was razor close and that probably Leonard edged it.
