Oleksandr Usyk Beat Medzhidov Today in a Pro Fight (Video)

The playoffs in the World Series of Boxing started today and Usyk fought Medzhidov at Superheavyweight giving a spectacular performance by winning all 5 rounds against Medzhidov in a action packed fight.

Usyk won Gold Medals at the 2011 World Championships and 2012 Olympics at 200lbs while Medzhidov won Gold at those same World Championships and Bronze at the Olympics at Superheavyweight. Both are fighting in the World Series of Boxing and since there is no 200lb divsion Usyk has been fighting at Superheavyweight. Medzhidov is without a doubt one of the top 4 Amateur Superheavyweights in the world, arguably #1.

Medzhidov is the cousin of pro HW Mago Abdusalamov with the same freakish punching power but also has an iron chin and much better textbook boxing skills.Usyk is trained by Vasyl Lomachenko's Father Anatoliy and will probably turn pro with Vasyl after this season is over in a couple months. When considering how impressive he's looked at Superheavyweight he might really be something special as a pro.

1st round is a bit of a feeling out round while 2-5 are action packed and extremely impressive.

Thanks for sharing this is a cracking fight. Uysk moves exceptionally well for a big guy and has a great workrate.

Was that a bodyshot he went down from? Looked a few times & it appeared he went down from a forearm to his elbow?

Bit gutted he didn't do his usual full celebration

Usyk is 6'3 but still under 210lbs.

The replay shows it and it looks like the punch deflects off his forearm/elbow and may have glanced off his crotch area, you can see him shaking his leg out so it must have made contact down below. They scored the round 10-9 for Usyk so it wasn't ruled a knockdown. He took some good flush headshots from Medzhidov too and handled it fine.

            great fight

Usyk is going to make some big splashes in the pros. Guys got bags of talent.

I like Medzhidov as well, any idea what his plans are? (going pro/staying amateur)

No idea but i hope he goes pro. His cousin Mago is so hopefully that'll influence it to happen sooner than later.

Lulz sorry? I figured that people may be somewhat familiar with them or recognize their names from the Olympics and was just trying to provide some context.

Colorful Character this Usyk, Athletic, excellent straight left he'd be a nightmare at CW ,wonder about his strength at HW or his ability to bulk up and keep his speed.
