Probably because boxing is years and years of accumulation and then you see the damage, except in certain cases. Whereas things like football, it's a hard ht with a result shown right away, or cycling they fall and show signs of being hurt right away.

Boxing has to be one of the worst..? From what I've heard, it's worse than any other combat sport for brain damage. I know Football and Rugby have deaths from brain injuries too, but you're guaranteed to lose brain cells every time you step in the ring. I played football at school and never got a migraine or any brain injury. Right after my first boxing sparring session, I had a bleeding nose, a bad migraine, and couldn't lean forward without getting a painful throbbing in my head. How the **** do you lose brain cells cycling? You mean if you crash?
Because getting punched in the head isn't as bad as crashing your head off the ground or getting rammed by a 270 lbs man. Golf is also an under rated one. When you think about it, how crazy is it to hit so many solid objects out into an area where people are walking? Many of those other sports are actually more ridiculous and dangerous than boxing might seem.

I wonder if the doctors who rally against boxing would be so quick to ban golf next time a child gets hit by a golf ball.

yeah , but crashing your head off the ground is an aciddent that does'nt happen to all cylclist...with boxing , getting punch in the head is a given..and boxers dont use better kind of protection either..atleast not in the pros...that's why we've seen many pro boxers die in the ring......how many pro footballers have died in the field becuase of direct hit they'd taken?...i really dont know but ive heard of heat strokes and heart attacks...

In cycling, when your head hits the ground it is usually going at an excess of 35 mph at the time of impact. The amount of force that is exerted on the cranium is many degrees greater than taking a punch to the face.

Boxing head trauma is all about accumulation and even then it's not a sure thing because your skull adapts and becomes more resistant to the trauma after taking punishment over a prolonged period of time. In many cases it depends on your genetic predisposition to cranial damage.

In cycling and football, concussions and brain damage can happen in the moments right after an injury because the difference between force applied from your skull hitting a cushioned fist and the cold hard ground is massive.
