Comments Thread For: Groves vs Ma***ski Being Discussed For Froch-Kessler?

Mariusz Kolodziej, the head of Global Boxing, announced that there are ongoing negotiations to match Patrick Ma***ski (21-1, 13 KOs) against British super middleweight George Groves (17-0, 13 KOs) on May 25 in London. The event is headlined by a rematch between super middleweight champions Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler. Ma***ski is a career middleweight and would move eight pounds north to make the fight happen.

Why's Groves picking a middleweight? This is supposed to be a showcase fight on a big PPV (in the UK at least) promotion. I expected better.

So hes fighting a 37-13-4 journeyman whose beat mainly guys without a single win then hes fighting a middleweight? His competition just continues getting worse.

Isn't the fight on the same night as the CL final? If so, no one will be watching the undercard.

I don't really mind, as long as he's staying busy. He should step up soon, though; perhaps have a serious test in June/July.

          Ah, that's a shame.

I'm sure Hearn said we'd be getting a legit fight for Groves on the undercard.

Yeah I could understand the tune-up/showcase fight at short notice just to get him on the Barker bill.. But come on now, if he's meant to be ready for the Steiglitz-Abraham winner and maybe even Froch in a few fights time he needs to be in with at least a top 10 contender now. Shame Adonis Steveson wouldn't be ready for that date...

Props to Groves for fighting so frequently, but let's up the ante in terms of competition, eh?
