To me a 10-8 round without a foul/knockdown has to be when one fighter absolutely dominates the other at a high work rate with the other guy not even throwing back (or ineffectively throwing out a jab here or there) but still taking clean shots. Even then it would have to be an extreme circumstance. You can't just give out 10-8's for one-sided rounds because a 10-8 round is devastating to the score of a fight. It has to be a 3 minute beating with the other guy doing absolutely nothing of use for me to even consider scoring a 10-8 round in such a manner. I also never give out even rounds (getting a point deducted but still winning the round not withstanding).

I always used to joke that when the tards score a fight they score every winning round 10-8 for Manny, and when he loses a round they score it 10-9 for Manny. Apparently that is what some of you on here want to do with every fight now?

Is it rewarding, or just not penalizing?

I'm going to revise my argument slightly and say for the worst beatings in a round i would give a 10-8, but in my opinion for a round to as one sided as i would need it to be it should be stopped anyway.

I suppose though if it is subjective then i'll just keep doing what i'm doing and you guys can all score however you want...

Its not anything, he's just standing up. In boxing you technically get penalized for getting knocked down, well for anything actually, fighters dont get rewarded in boxing

You lose a point when you get knocked down. Not when you get stunned.

If that's the case, I would take a knee and run 15-20 seconds off the clock every time I get stunned since I know I'm going to lose a point whether I stay on my feet or not.
But 10-8 is usually not awarded on 15-20 seconds of punishment, it's usually protracted. So if that's your workaround to taking punishment, you'll be taking multiple knees a round.

Bradley was still throwing back. He probably threw more while he was hurt than Ruslan did in all of round 3.
There generally needs to be a whole lotta hurting involved. This might not cover all cases, but IMO if you're amazed the guy made it out of the round on his feet, that's a 10-8.

                  Maidana-Khan round 10
                  Mayweather-Gatti round 6
                  Martinez-Pavlik round 9 (MAYBE)

Those are 10-8 rounds, I'll add more if I can remember them.

All up to the judge. In some jurisdictions they allow the ref to signify 10-8 too though this is becoming increasingly rare.

If the fighter has taken so much damage that he might aswell have been knocked down, thats usually when you get such a score. You find that World Champions rarely get given 10-8s.

Some fighters can take too much punishment for their own good, too much heart and too much pride. I guess thats where the concept came useful - i.e fighters should just take a knee to recover for a while instead of sustaining more than necessary.

No one is saying every time you get stunned you lose a point. If a fighter is dominating for a full round and hurting the other fighter a lot I think it should be a 10-8 round.

If a fighter wants to take a knee, fine. It doesn't really change anything and it could actually be good for the safety of the fighters.
